I'll be in Thailand October/November, probably Chiang Mai and surrounds and some parts of northeastern and southern Thailand. I haven't worked out a definite itinerary yet. One of the things I've noticed are the number of festivals in Thailand. I'll be able to go to dragon boat races in Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son and will also be in Thailand for Loi Krathong and Buddhist Lent(and no, I am not a Buddhist). There's at least two festivals most months of the year so it could be a good idea to resea ...

Has anyone got married on a beach in Thailand?

Posted by fifimay on 5/8/2008 at 04:54

Can anyone give any advice for getting married in Thailand? We want something very, very simple - basically just the 2 of us on a beach (preferably Koh Phi Phi) getting married in a non-religious Western Style, but all we can find are hotels/resorts offering wedding packages for the bride & groom plus guests (we'll have none!). Is there anyone out there who has done it the way I have described & how easy/hard was this to achieve? Thanks for your help :) ...

Has anyone been to see the naga?

Posted by mic59 on 20/8/2008 at 17:37

I have heard about a thing that is viewed by a lot of Thais that is called the naga. It is near Nhong Khai in North Eastern Thailand and is some kind of ball of fire which some Thais seem to think is a dragon or snake. It is near the Mekhong and may be caused by a mixture of methane and phosphane gases. I'm not a scientist but this is what I have heard. Has anyone seen this and what is the best time to go. From all reports even if the naga is a bit of a loss the crowds and atmosphere of expectat ...

Train to Kanchanaburi

Posted by chrispyrolls on 26/8/2008 at 02:57

Hey, I have read conflicting reports on the train (from Bangkok) to Kanchan... does it stop at Nakhon Pathom or not? One timetable I have says it does, but then I read another that was not so clear?!... Or is it the case that only 2 trains from Thon Buri(0745 & 1355) stop there?... Also, the plan is to train it to NP, spend a few hours there then hop onto a train to Kanchan... is this feasible in a day? Thanks Chris ...

Hi Have a trip to Thailand planned, but also flying over to Vietnam (Hanoi only). Can do this at anytime during our trip, but just wondered if anyone can suggest best place in Thailand to fly out from and where in Thailand should return? Landing in Bangkok and making way to Chiang Mai. Heading back down to Krabi and few nearby islands. Bit short on time so didn't want to waste too much time going back on ourselves. Have looked at suggested itenarys, but all for travelling through borders into ...

My mom is coming to visit, and needs to overnight in Bangkok, ideally somewhere near the new airport, as their stay is only about 18 hours. Any ideas what hotels are near the new airport? I haven't been yet, to check it out. Also, with less than a day in Bangkok, what would you recommend my mom and her husband do? Thanks so much! ...

Koh Yao Noi

Posted by mharland on 24/8/2008 at 18:36

We've recently come back from a holiday to Phuket and also Koh Yao Noi. What a fantastic island this is. Slow paced, uncommercialised, friendly locals, beautiful views. We stayed at Tabeak View Point Lodge where the views were fantastic, our own balcony overlooking the islands that we visited one day on a local long tail boat. Tabeak is owned by the local policeman who only works every second day. They have 7 bungalows all with fans, hot water and great views. He is very friendly and took our wh ...

5/6 Days in Phuket and Ko Phi Phi

Posted by wanderingdreamer on 2/8/2008 at 18:10

Hi I am spending 5/6 days in the Phuket region on a stopover to Laos and am wondering how I should plan my time. I would like to spend a few days on Ko Phi Phi (I know its touristy but I just have to do it!!!) and a few days on a less touristy beach in Phuket which is close to some decent snorkelling (if that's possible). I would like to spend my time kayaking, snorkelling, walking and lying on the beach. Does anyone have any good suggestions for places I can go to independently or as part ...
