Have Phuket hotel prices really doubled in 7 years?

Posted by LeonardCohen1 on 16/2/2014 at 19:49

I haven't been there for nearly 7 years and the other day looked at a nice resort I stayed at last time. I paid 1800 baht low season for a deluxe room. I see they now charge 3500 for the same room low season and they call it an internet special LOL. Looked at other resorts I know and the same sort of price rises have occured. In other places prices have gone up 200-300 baht but not double like that. I'm guessing the number of flights into Phuket have increased a lot and the hotels can now cha ...

Thailand with baby - trip report

Posted by mikefly on 16/2/2014 at 09:04

Hi, Thanks to everyone who offered up advice before we went. In November we took our 10 month old from Toronto to Thailand for a 4-week holiday. Notes: #1) 12 time zones is a LOT! Somewhere closer would have been easier. #2) The bulkhead on Cathay Pacific was unbelievably spacious and made the flight super easy #3) We preferred local hotels to chains #4) Sharing a room for 4 weeks was tough. It would have been better to rent apartments on airbnb (or similar) Arrival in Bangkok - Westin Sukh ...

A few years back my friend passed away and he has a really cool drawing I've been wanting to get done for a long time now. Seeing how I'll be in Thailand, I was just going to check if there is a place anyone can recommend in Bangkok? Other places are cool too, i'll be traveling around for a bit. Just want to make sure it gets done right. ...

I just booked an Intrepid Tours Indochina tour starting in Bangkok March 5th, going through Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia and returning to Bangkok April 3rd. I was planning on staying another 10 days in Bangkok to sightsee. After reading the travelfish weather info on these countries for this period I`m ready to cancel. It seems I`ve chosen the worst time to do this. Has anyone survived this type of trip during this time? I can take some heat but...! ...

3-4 hrs enough to go into BKK from airport, shop & return?

Posted by heidisueelvus on 15/2/2014 at 03:26

Hi Everyone, Our plane arrives at BKK from Trat at 2:10pm and I would like to go into Bangkok on the city train, shop for a few gifts and be back to the airport by 5 or 6 pm. Is this doable? I've been bad and haven't bought any gifts for family and will be on Koh Kood where there's no shopping until we leave! Also, a related question - can anyone suggest a shop or area where I could find high quality crafts (especially textiles) that is very close to where I could get to conveniently on the ...

Southern Thailand Questions

Posted by JainaSJedi on 14/2/2014 at 02:05

Hi, I'm flying to Bangkok on March 20 and then on to Phuket where I am starting my trip with a liveboard out of Khao Lak. I have a few questions about traveling in Southern Thailand. I plan to work my way north to south visiting Khao Lak, Ko Yao Noi, and Ko Lanta to start. 1) Is there a public bus from Phuket to Khao Lak? Most things I've seen posted refer to taxi service, which is expensive (>$1400 baht). 2) What's a good hostel/guesthouse in Bangkok near either the airport or the sky ...

Reasonable costing tour for phi phi and phang nga in phuket

Posted by rohveer on 11/2/2014 at 11:41

Guys, Please give me names/links of good tour operators for the two tours . I know going in speedboat will cost more and I have no problems going in a slow cruise ship. I know I could probably hire a longboat and go there but we are a family of only four and the cost would be too much. I am looking for each tour costing THB 1100-1200 per person and not more. We are going around 7th May, 2014 and hope the rains don't play spoilsport. Thanks, guys ...

Flight to catch - how much time to drive from Pai to Chiang Mai?

We are driving the Mae Hong Son loop clockwise and spending our last night around Pai . The next morning we will need to get to the Chiang Mai airport no later than 4:30 pm for a flight to Sukhothai. We've never done this drive before and will be taking it slow. Can anyone who has done it give me an idea of how much time to allow? We'll be driving to Pai from MHS and we're thinking that if we were able to stay somewhere between Pai and Chiang Mai it might make the drive back to ...

After some help finding a quiet island in June-July...

Hi Travelfish guys, My Partner and I are planning a trip to thailand for 17 days in june-july this year. We are landing in Chang Mai and planning to spend quite a lot of time discovering the north and possibly doing a slow boat down the Mekong into Laos (heard its quite good?). Anyways to finish of our trip we would really like an awesome beach getaway and have discovered that the gulf of thailand is probably best to avoid really bad weather. We are more interested in a lazy and relaxing exper ...

Thailand in April - should we include the north?

Posted by vermishel on 1/2/2014 at 10:24

Hi All, I'm planning a trip to Thailand in April (yes, I heard it's going to be hot!) for 2 weeks. We're a couple in our early 30's, and we enjoy exploring nature and trekking (but don't mind relaxing on a beach here and there). In terms of budget, we prefer staying in hostels and traveling by night trains/night buses where possible, but can afford a flight to save time. I really wanted to include a visit to the north to places like Pai, Nan or Soppong to do some independent trekking, but bec ...
