AirAsia X gets Abu Dhabi as a hub

Posted by travelfishnews on 3/8/2009 at 12:04

Channel News Asia is reporting that AirAsia's long-haul arm, AirAsia X, will have a new Middle East hub in Abu Dhabi. CNA says that having a hub means that the carrier will be able to base its planes outside Kuala Lumpur, and it will not be limited to servicing destinations within an eight-hour radius from the Malaysian capital. This will allow its network to extend to North Africa and Europe, as it can use the Middle East port as a stopover. This has pretty interesting implications fo ...

Fukushima may be worse than Chernobyl

Posted by SBE on 26/5/2011 at 00:11

The situation seems to be a lot worse than Japan has been letting on and world media attention is conveniently focused elsewhere now so you might have missed this snippet of news. It's now official. THREE nuclear meltdowns occurred within 100 hours of the earthquake and tsunami in Fukushima last March. The official reason for keeping the lid on this information was because they were afraid it would mass panic. (No kidding). According to the Japanese government, the timing (ie only making this ...

Feb/March 2012 will be our 4th visit in a row to SE Asia, having travelled around Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Thailand doesn't count as we have only been to Bangkok and taken the train up to Vientianne. However, we met some people in LP who had taken a 3 or 4 day boat trip from somewhere on the Thai border down the Mekong to LP. They had booked a boat that can take about 20 pax but that only actually books about 12 and they said it was brilliant. Unfortunately we didn't actually think to ask ...
