Ha Long Bay or Sapa - only time for one

Posted by heidisueelvus on 1/9/2010 at 11:04

Hi Everyone, In December we are flying into Hanoi on our way to Luang Prabang and have decided to spend a few nights in Hanoi. We're trying to decide between 4 nights Hanoi vs 2 nights Hanoi + 2 nights Sapa , vs + 2 nights Hanoi + 2 nights Ha Long Bay. All sound wonderful, however we are a bit concerned about Sapa and Ha Long bay being too touristy/crowded. Appreciate any opinions on the best plan. ...

Sapa Tour

Posted by husun on 29/10/2010 at 01:11

Have booked my Jan 2011 Sapa from a tour operator. Can someone advise on the price I'd pay, is it a resonable one? A 4N3D Sapa group tour inclusive of the Bac Ha market tour. One way transfer from Hanoi hotel to the train station. Returned train tickets ( I book the Tulico Deluxe 4 berth cabin, all the berth for me and my wife), a 2 nights stay at a 3* Hotel in Sapa. I paid 430$/ 2 persons for this entire tour. Is it a reasonable one? Hope someone could comments. And preferably what to do ...

Buses going to Mai Chau

Posted by tf_geckozy on 28/10/2010 at 15:07

Buses going to Mai Chau leave "Ha Dong bus station", about 10km south-west of city center(around Old Quarter) and "My Dinh bus station", about 7km west of city center(around Old Quarter). And if you will stay at Mai Chau for a few days, you never need to hurry for going to Mai Chau because it takes 3~3.5 hours only from Ha Noi , and My Dinh bus station has 3 buses a day (07:00am/14:00pm/14:30pm) as far as i cheched Sep.9 2010 and actually took a bus at My Dinh. ...

Vietnam itinerary confusion

Posted by dganitbz on 24/10/2010 at 05:11

My husband and I like nature and atmosphere…. (Like in Hoi An) We plan to be in Vietnam on March, 2011. I was wondering whether or not to include Hue in our itinerary… If we do include Hue we will only have one full day (not including the transportation time.) This will cause visiting Tam Coc, Ninh Binh , on Saturday and after spending one night in Ninh Binh-Departing to Hanoi on Sunday-I guess visiting Ninh Binh on weekend will probably not be the best time … too many people… Afte ...

HCMC to PP: tour or not

Posted by ljdeshayes on 22/10/2010 at 15:33

Ok my friend and I fly into HCMC 11/29 and want to travel thru the Mekong on the way to PP but am confounded by the posts and tours. Some posts say independently can be done over a couple of days for ~$50 US but tours priced at 4 times that. We have time to play with and am not trying to do this on a shoestring but am trying to avoid tourist trap like tours but ensure we can actually coordinate transport & accommodations as well as actual touring on our own during The relative high season. H ...

Phu Quoc or Mui Ne?

Posted by SarahLennon on 25/10/2010 at 20:02

Hi all, In Nha Trang at the mo and then heading onto Dalat but have just read up a bit of Phu Quoc and am totally torn whether to visit there or Mui Ne? Flights are pretty cheap to get there so that wouldn't be a hassle but since they are both beach resorts its kind of hard to distinguish which would be better. Any help at all would be appreciated ...

Hi, forgive me because i know nothing about SE Asia so this itinterary may not make sense.... I am trying to plan a trip in March for about 6 weeks. We were thinking of starting in Hanoi and making out way down Vietnam, across Cambodia, and then into Thailand. Specifically (Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Mui Ne, Saigon, Phnom Pheh, Siem Riep, Bangkok (although we prefer to spend little time in the big cities), then down to the islands in Thailand). We would then fly out of Bangkok at ...

Ha Long independently

Posted by Buzz on 20/10/2010 at 18:05

me and a friend will of course want to see Ha Long Bay during our first visit to Vietnam, but we hate big tour groups, and while we are technically backpackers, are not big fans of the 'backpacker scene". Can Ha Long be done independently and reasonably? I was thinking of the following: Get a bus from Hanoi to Halong City (how easy is this without a tour? where do I get it?), then take a ferry to Cat Ba (do you really see the bay in such a cruise? is that a good way to do it?), spend ...
