One month working remotely from Vietnam, itinerary critiques?

Posted by saryant on 28/7/2014 at 23:39

So, my company allows me to work remotely one month a year from anywhere in the world and I'm thinking about spending it in Vietnam next year. Probably Jan/Feb 2015 (though before Tet). I'd still be working during part of the day. Given that, my plan is to stick to just a few places over the month. FWIW, this will be my first trip to Vietnam but not the region, I spent two months backpacking around Thailand and Malaysia two years ago. I've also spent time in India so I understand what trave ...

GoAsiaTravel.com & Alova Cruises in Vietnam- has anyone used them?

Posted by baza on 3/8/2014 at 21:44

Hi I am planning a trip for our family of 2 adults and 4children to Vietnam and we have limited time while there. I found a company that will organise hotel pickup and drop off, Hanoi hotels, a trip to Sapa and Halong Bay (on Alova Cruises.com -which their website says they are the 'licensed tour operator and owner of'), thereby saving us a lot of time by organising these 2 excursions from Hanoi (in a 7 day/6 night package). I wonder if anyone has had any experience of Go Asia Traveland/or ...

Anyone take the Ha Long Cruise With Aclass Junk?

Posted by thailen on 27/7/2014 at 04:26

We're thinking of signing up with WaytoVietnam tour operator for a 2 day/1 night cruise. The price is pretty cheap - $95/per person. The next best price is $125/pp. on a cruise recommended by our hotel. Anyone have direct or indirect experience? The photos look great for both boats, but who knows how accurate they really are? ...

Vietnam VOA Question

Posted by MWasser6 on 21/7/2014 at 02:17

Hi All, This may be a stupid question, but I cant seem to find information anywhere online. While the Vietnam VOA is only possible to use for entry the at the airport, if you pay for a multi-entry visa approval letter, once you pay the stamping fee in Hanoi/HCMC, can you then leave and re-enter by land? Or is the visa of this type only usable for airport entries??? Thanks for the advice!! ...

Moving to Saigon

Posted by somanights on 20/7/2014 at 04:58

I'm now in my 10th month of travelling SEA, and the next step is settling down somewhere for a bit. I loved Vietnam and I've chosen to go to Saigon for 6 months. I'm planning to make decisions on a room or flat when I get there, but I'd like to do some advance reading. Can anyone please recommend a site (aside from Craigslist) which has non-agency ads for places to live? Also, any sites or expat communities which might list vacancies and the like? Perhaps also any other sites which may be o ...

Tours from Ho Chi Minh City to Mekong Delta

Posted by thailen on 17/7/2014 at 08:13

A friend said he took an all-day, all expenses tour recommended by his hotel to the Mekong Delta including at least two boat rides, last November, for the ridiculous price of $10! Even if it's more than $10, does this tour have a name, would my hotel(after I book it) know about it? How and where would I get it? Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated... ...

Vietjet Air Cancellation

Posted by coderalera on 17/7/2014 at 05:42

Hello everyone! First of all, thanks to everyone who contributes building this site and congratulations for the good job! I'm writing my first post because last May I've booked a flight from Bangkok to Hanoi with Vietjet Air on July the 28th and they have cancelled the flight. I only have an email from the company that arrived to my junk email and I've found it by chance! Now I'm expecting for their response because there has been no refund of the tickets and I want to know what's happening. ...

Choosisng a Ha long Tour Operator

Posted by thailen on 12/7/2014 at 02:55

First, when they quote prices, an overnight cabin fee for a double cabin is the entire price for 2 people, correct? Is there a difference in price between booking a cruise on-line and waiting until we check in our hotel and asking them or just walking down streets and finding one that way? Would we be able to pay with a credit card? Many posters talk about kayaking. I can handle a canoe but have never sat in a kayak. Will they let us ride in kayaks as newbies? How long does it take to control th ...

Vietnamese Visa in Phnom Penh

Posted by charlottex on 11/7/2014 at 06:59

Hi, I plan to get my visa for Vietnam in Phnom Penh , I read than it's cheaper, faster and easier to get it from a travel agent or even my hotel than the embassy. Did anyone experience this? Do you have any recommendation about a travel agent in Phnom Penh who does that? And one important question, how much time do I have to get into Vietnam once I get the Visa? my flight for Vietnam is the 22 of august and I plan to get the visa this week. Thanks a lot! ...

Sapa in Late February

Posted by chopin on 23/1/2012 at 21:24

Hi all, my wife and I plan to go to Sapa from Hanoi from 18 to 26 in February. Would like some advice for the following: 1. Is it a good timing for travelling there? 2. We checked that this is the cold season there. Is there a possibility of snwoing? Is it going to be windy? How many layers of clothing are needed? 3. Would it be peak season? Hard to find hotels? 4. Is it recommended if we rent a motobike and move about on our own there? 5. We plan to travel from Hanoi by train. Is the scene ...

Hue or Ninh Binh?

Posted by Dorotich on 3/5/2014 at 13:26

Having recently discovered an interesting homestay in the countryside outside of Ninh Binh , we are now torn about the penultimate part of our 5-week visit to SE Asia this summer. Following a 5-day stay in Hoi An, we had originally planned to stay 3-nights in Hue to see the obvious sites of the Citadel, the Tombs, and possibly Bach Ma National Park. Now we are considering the over-night train to Ninh Binh and spending a couple of nights so that we can explore Tam Coc - Bich Dong, Trang An Gr ...

Hiring a Motorcycle Taxi

Here are some questions. Since we're a couple, do we need to ride separately? Will some taxi drivers take both both of us? If yes, we'll probably have to get at least one helmet, maybe two. What should we pay, since we're only in Hanoi 4-5 days and in Saigon for 3 days... ...

Motorbike Vietnam August weather ? advice please

Hello , me and my brother are considering motorbiking vietnam from 25th july - 16th august , obviously it is the rainy season however I wondered if anybody had experience to how much this actually affected their travelling ? With tropical weather I understand you just get a downpour for part of the day but will this affect the roads through the whole of the month making riding quite unenjoyable. We would likely start in Saigon and head inland towards the border of Cambodia and head north from t ...

Vietnam on a motorcycle!

Hey guys, I have to firstly say that I've been reading some brilliant adventures and trip ideas on this forum. Nothing beats going beyond the sites you so often hear about in travel brochures and really uncovering the naked reality of a different culture and place. This past year I was able to motorcycle across Vietnam on a 100cc lawn-mower engine motorcycle. Jokes a-side, it was probably the biggest adventure I've been on and experienced. I'd really love to help and share tales and tips wi ...

I am a single traveller, starting my first adventure this August (2014). I'm backpacking around Australia but my stopover is in Vietnam and I will be in the airport for about 13 hours. I will be at the airport in Ho Chi Minh City and I have a question about the currency I could use whilst I'm waiting for my connecting flight. I know that the Dong is used but can I use any other currency whilst I'm waiting at the airport? Dollars or Pounds? Or should I get some VND? Any advice would be really ...
