Eating Food Washed in Water

Posted by crafte on 12/1/2013 at 05:24

Hi, I'm from USA and I've gotten mixed messages on what we should eat when traveling. This is our first time to Vietnam and I was wondering if its safe to eat the greens and veggies that normally comes with many of the traditional vietnamese meals such as Pho and Bun Bo Hue. The greens and bean sprouts are what really makes the dish for me! I've talked to a season traveler to SE asia (he travels there probably 3 times a year over the past several years) and he says he eats everything. He jus ...

Bicycle Rental/Lockup

Posted by StevenAM on 8/1/2013 at 16:39

Hi, Now this may seem like a very stupid question to some, but in most of my travels so far I have used taxis/tours. I am wondering about the hiring of pushbikes while travelling through Vietnam (also Cambodia and Laos). It seems as if they are an awesome way to travel around and something I plan to do a fair bit. But the thing to me is no where explains how to keep them safe when you are visiting sites. Do the places you hire the bikes from usually supply locks or is this something that is imp ...

Con Dao worth it?

Posted by Lost_Vagabond on 30/11/2012 at 16:27

Hi there, I'm planning on a 3 week trip to Vietnam in April and was thinking of checking out Con Dao. I'm not sure if it would be worth the extra expense? It seems like its not been touched significantly by mass tourism (yet). I'm aware of the fact that it will be a plane trip there and also most likely elevated prices on the island. Is there actually any budget/reasonable accommodation on the island? ...

Hi there! we plan to go to Vietnam in June for 3 weeks. It's our first time we're going to SE Asia. We're 25 and we like different types of traveling, like trekking (West Highland Way in Scotland, some trekking in Norway and last year the GR20 in Corsica), but we can also enjoy a 3 week road trip in the USA! But we never discovered a non-western culture. So this time we wanted to combine beautiful nature with a different culture. So we made our choice, Vietnam it is. I still have a lot to read ...

My husband and I will be traveling in Vietnam for 12 days in April. We're flying into Hanoi and out of Ho Chi Minh. This is what we're thinking for an itinerary: 1 night in Hanoi 1 night in Halong Bay 3 nights Sapa (includes 2 overnight trains) 4 nights in Hoi An 3 nights in Ho Chi Minh A couple of questions: We decided to skip Hue to allow more time to relax in Hoi An. Is Hue a must-see? What's best in Ho Chi Minh? For those who visited Sapa recently - did you take mala ...

open bus ticket - prices

Posted by ozmo on 20/3/2007 at 17:05

hello, just a word about the prices of the open bus ticket: a ticket with 5 stops should cost something around 20$-23$ if you buying it in Hanoi and around 15$-18$ if you buying it in Saigon. a ticket that include all the stops points will cost something around 25$ in Hanoi, and less in Saigon. I'm just telling you this because i met same people that paid 35$ because the travel agency told them that they will get special bus, but eventually, all of them got to the same bus like the ...

southern vietnam advice please

we will have 11 days between HCM and going to Cambodia - we think we would like to go to Cambodia via the Mekong Delta but how would we make it last 11 days?? An organised tour for that long would be so expensive - it would be nice to stay for a while in some places in the Mekong Delta does anyone have any advise on how to 'hop on and off' boats or tours? We have two large suitcases. The islands seem to be expensive and the flights fully booked so that option is out - how can we fill 11days ...

Visa Confusion

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but I read the FAQs and didn't find anything. This is my first time heading overseas and thus, my first time dealing with Visas. I'm flying into Hanoi in early January with plans on exploring Vietnam for ~1 month, exiting into Cambodia in the south before continuing on to Thailand. However I'm also flying out of Hanoi to come back home mid-March and am unsure of what sort of Visa to get. I've read I can get a 90 day visa but will it work if I exit and ...

Restriction on lcarrying iquids on VN internl flights

Posted by m4yb on 26/12/2012 at 17:36

A little tip for people on internal flights in VN: pack your liquids in you checked luggage as if on international flight! In Australia, there is no restriction on carrying liquids, eg a bottle of wine, etc, in your carryon, on domestic flights. Curious about that, I checked VN Airline's website and our etickets prior to flying, no mention of restriction. Turned up at Tan Son Nhut Airport, HCMC, with my opened bottle of dutyfree rum, some beer and the usual big water bottle in my carry on. Was ...
