Dong Anh train station

Posted by baruch88 on 14/12/2015 at 17:43

I land in Hanoi at 16:30 and want to continue that day by train to Sapa. At first I thought of going to the city center and take a train from the main station in Hanoi. But I found (alone, from Google maps) that there is a train station near the airport called Dong Anh. No reference about it in English on the web, but I found in www.baolau.vn that SP3 train stops there at 22:54. There is a public bus (line 17) from the airport which stops near the station. Does anyone know about this station? ...

Motorbiking the North in January

Posted by stef25 on 14/12/2015 at 04:15

I'm riding a motorcycle from Hanoi to Sapa , starting Jan 4th. I understand this isn't the best time of year for it. How bad does the weather actually get in the beginning of Jan? Can I expect constant fog & drizzle? I'm guessing temperatures in Hanoi / Son La will be ok but get worse as I climb further up the hills toward Sapa? Will the accommodation along the way have heated rooms, or is heating totally absent like in much of the rest of SE Asia? Finally, to p ...

Having a 5 year old means we are limited in out transport options and would like to keep it somewhat simple. The kid is definitely not into walking a lot or hiking... Also budget-wise, flights at a minimum. Having said that we do not mind moving between locations. The trip can ...

Monkey Bridge? Have you ever tried?

Posted by lilith235 on 4/12/2015 at 08:30

You know in Vietnam, that "Monkey Bridge" is the specific bridge of Vietnam. You only see it in South Vietnam, exactly is Mekong Delta. Have ever you tried to go through Monkey Bridge? I have some fact about that special bridge, in case someone never heard about it: "Almost all countries have characterized bridges. The bridges reflect the lifestyle and customs of the local people. There are extremely odd bridges that many tourists feel very scared when they pass them, like playing ...

Motorcycle License - New Laws?

Posted by Dayyanum on 19/11/2015 at 13:30

I know this is a common topic, but after much searching I've found lots of conflicting articles and posts, and just want to make sure I'm preparing correctly. I'll be buying a bike and doing a ~30 day ride from HCMC to Hanoi in January. I am very experienced and have an international license/motorcycle license in the US. Some people say that I can easily get it 'converted' in HCMC, some say it requires tons of red tape and a 10+ day wait. Someone else said I could probably get it done online ...

Hi everyone. I'm planning a trip to Vietnam in January. In orden to get the Visa, I have seen that some online sites offer their fee (about 15) +25 for the on arrival stamp, but some others say their fee+45 on arrival stamp. Does anybody knows why? Is there a mistake? Which is the Visa on Arrival stamp fee rigor now, or better, in January 2016? I'm talking about a 30 days single visa. Thanks ...

Hoi An: Warning about buying gas!!

Posted by enna4 on 26/11/2015 at 03:06

There are 2 gas stations in Hoi An. I highly recommend you buy at the one on Nguyen Tat Thanh. DO NOT buy at the one on Hai Ba Trung (the main street heading north out of town), called Hong Ha gas station. We live right nearby and we witness foreign tourists (and some locals) getting scammed every single day, many times a day. There are constant arguments, furious customers, attendants who have a good chuckle after people drive off. By the way, whenever you buy gas, ask for a specific amoun ...

Where to go during Tet

Posted by Bridgequeen on 4/9/2015 at 14:18

I have stupidly booked a (non changeable) ticket into KL and out of Bangkok from 28 Jan to 18 Feb which coincides nicely with Tet. The plan had been to do Hanoi, Nha TRang, Hoi An and Phuo Quoc but now I am wondering if that is such a good idea. Any advice would be welcome - I don't have to go to Vietnam, happy wandering around SE Asia and have done Cambodia, Lao and Malaysia trips - in fact I arrived in Kuching this year at the beginning of New year and everything was dead and closed - exce ...
