Hi Folks, I noticed this piece on the BBC about renewed interest in Muay Thai in Vietnam: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-16823611 My question is, do any of you (probably those dwelling locally?) know of anywhere to go and spectate at the amateur bouts? In HCMC or even Hanoi? What's the standard like? Currency in Vietnam

Posted by andreaze on 1/3/2012 at 20:28

I'm living in Thailand, and trying to figure out what I should do for my upcoming trip to Vietnam, money-wise. I keep hearing mixed things: a Thai friend has told me everywhere takes Thai Baht. I also understand they accept US dollars. But my friend who is there now says it's all about the dong everywhere (the dollar rips you off a bit), but he hasn't seen anywhere that takes Baht. Does anyone know anything about this? Also, will it be best for me to bring a wad of baht over and convert it at a ...

Visa length

Hi, Just planning my trip around SEA next month... I'm going for about 9 weeks in total, and i'm thinking of spending 4-5 in Vietnam to start. I'm hoping to do this by motorbike, and keep my itinerary pretty flexible. How easy is it to get a visa extension if I chose to get a 1 month visa and end up staying for 5-6 weeks? Can this just be sorted out with cash when I leave (land border to Cambodia) or will I need to apply for an extension at an embassy before my visa expires? Is it just as well t ...

Hey, I've just arrived in Hanoi and despite trying to be social and booking into a dorm I've been bumped into a single room which I'm not feeling the love for. If there are any other solo travellers out there who fancy the idea of sharing an afternoon or evening out looking for adventure or maybe you need a spotter for the many hazards when crossing the road then give me a shout. I'm here until Saturday, planning a trip to Halong at some point and hopefully a longer stay in Sapa do some volu ...

Tunnels north vietnam apart from Cu Chi Tunnels

Posted by PeterW on 24/2/2012 at 03:39

Hello all I've been in Siagon for 3 days and then went to Vung Tau for some beach time and apparently nearby there are tunnels like Cu Chi. However, the place was a **** hole (in my opinion) so I'm back in Saigon less than 24 hrs later. I just didn't feel the place. I would like to go to Mui Ne tomorrow at 8am, but I really want to see some of these tunnels. Are there any more north of Saigon that I can see so I don't have to spend another day or two in Saigon? Any advice would be appr ...

Hey there, 3 of us are travelling to Langkawi, Vietnam, Laos & Cambodia, and I am trying to work out currency to buy. I'm wondering how widely USD are accepted, or is it better to get a debit card and withdraw local currency? In Luang Prabang, do I need to buy some KIP? or use USD (small purchases like meal in town, water, taxi etc) Also, I've heard that in Siem Reap, Cambodia USD is accepted for everything - taxi, tuk tuk, meals in town etc. Is this right?
