Are rush Visa Services reliable?

Posted by splacknuck on 9/6/2009 at 02:02

I am a US citizen still in the US, and I need to get a 60-day tourist visa. I need to get it sent out, processed, and back within 10 days, because I travel a lot and need my passport most of the time. Regular consulate processing takes at least two weeks unless I deliver it by hand, but lots of rush services offer 5 day and even 24 hr processing. Yet they are not in the same city as any consulate. How do these middle-men work, and are they reliable? Thanks awfully! ...

Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam

Posted by Camuski on 25/5/2009 at 02:28

Hi Seasoned travellers! I'm planning to travel to Thailand, Cambodia then onto Vietnam. Was wondering what the most feasible approach to this journey would be (basically the best border crossings from Thailand to Cambodia then from Cambodia to Vietnam) I've got a month, and I'm not too worried about the time I spend in Thailand or Cambodia, I'd like visit Angkor Wat, my main priority though is getting back to Vietnam to see some more of the South which I missed on my previous visit. I'd ...

Border Update: Dom Kralor - Veun Kham (cambodia-laos)

Border name: Dom Kralor / Veun Kham (Cambodia-Laos) Date used: May 10 2009 Visa on arrival available: No entering Laos, Yes entering Cambodia, Your nationality: Canada & US Comments: Quick crossing. The officials on both sides asked for $1 for a stamp fee, easier to pay than argue as transport is non-existent and your minibus isn't going to wait while you argue the merits of a dollar. Can I get a tourist visum at Vientiane or Khon Khaen, and save it, and enter Laos on a visum on arrival, cross Laos into Vietnam up to Kontum, and then return into Laos at the Bo Y crosssing using the visum obtained at Vientiane or Khon Khaen ? Anybody tried this before.. maybe for a trip into Cambodia at the Veung Kham border where no visum on arrival is available when returning into Laos. Cambodia/Thailand scam

Posted by lodge on 22/4/2009 at 19:06

me and my friends recently used the Aranyaprathet/Poipet crossing to get into Cambodia. On leaving the train we were approached by a tuk-tuk driver who said he would take us to the border crossing for 20b. However, instead of taking us to the crossing, he took us to an outdoor office in the middle of nowhere. These guys gave us entry cards to fill in, claiming to be a reputable travel company and 'proved it' by showing us their email address (which was 'beer7979@hotmail.com'). They said they ...

Border Update: Sop Hun / Tay Trang

Posted by brucemoon on 20/4/2009 at 21:07

The Travelfish details at 'Laos 'border crossings' for this crossing are now out of date. Yes, the bus leaves Muang Khua on the Lao side for Dien Bien Phu on the Vietnamese side at 7:00am (sometimes later, but don't bet on it departing late). One is well advised to be at the departure point (Vietnamese side of the Nam Ou [river] by 6:30am as the seats on the bus are limited and it's a first come first served basis). As we left, several people were left stranded because they didn't ge ...

Border Crossing: Huay Xai / Chiang Khong

Posted by brucemoon on 20/4/2009 at 21:16

Hello The Travelfish details on the Laos border crossings for Huay Xai / Chiang Khong are outdated. The river crossing is now 40baht, but!!!! The ticket sellers now impose an extra 10baht for any bag (whatever size) being carried by a farang (foreigner). So, the full ferry cost is 40baht. At the Laos border, the immigration staff impose a US1 or 40baht fee. You cannot escape this fee. If you arrive at the weekend, it is called a 'weekend fee'. If you arrive after 4pm, it ...

Visa exemption for Vietnam

Posted by Lother on 7/4/2009 at 21:34

Hey, my turn to ask the questions for a change. We're planning to take the boat from Phnom Penh to Chau Doc next June, and I was wondering about the crossing at Kaam Samnor / Ving Xuong. I know that most nationalities need to have a visa beforehand, as they don't give them on arrival. Luckily however, I carry a passport from a country listed on the "No visa required for travel less than 15 days" list. Now, I was just wondering do I need to have some sort of proof with me that I'm leaving ...

Border update Na Meo / Nam Xoi

Posted by SimonD on 24/3/2009 at 20:10

I was searching a bit around before I crossed this border between Vietnam and Laos, and it seemed like a lot of people were confused about it, and there were no really recent information, so here goes: First thing first, the border is still open. I crossed the border form the Laos side. You still CANNOT get visa's on arrival either way. From Sam Neua and Vieng Xai you can get sawngthaew's, jumbo's and the like to the border, but I wouldn't recommend that, as it seemed like it was hard ...

Extending tourist visa in Thailand

Posted by scarletina on 25/3/2009 at 07:00

Hiya! I've got a single entry tourist visa, valid for sixty days, and I wanted to extend this for another thirty. Question is, does my original tourist visa have to be close to expiring before I can get the other thirty days, or can I just add them on to the sixty as soon as I get into bangkok, to give me a full ninety days out there? I'm wanting to be doing island hopping and it would be such a nuisance to have to do a visa run or to hurry back to bangkok half way through my trip to extend my v ...
