Pre-organising Visa's

Posted by drutherford on 5/2/2007 at 09:06

Hi We're going to Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam all by bus/train (apart from initial entry into Bangkok airport). I have read alot of threads about getting visa's at border crossings but I was wondering whether it is worth trying to pre-organise these visa's before we leave from our trip from the embassy's in Australia just for peace of mind. Also, we are planning on arriving in Thailand and spening about 2-3 weeks up North before travelling through the other countries, but then ...

Is it possible to cross from SW Vietnam to Thailand by boat?

Posted by juekennedy on 31/1/2007 at 09:52

I'd like to spend a few days in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam before hitting some of the islands in the Gulf of Thailand - Phu Quoc (Vietnamese) and Ko Chang (Thailand). It seems daft to return inland when the islands are so close together (plus the added expense of paying the Cambodian visa again). Does anyone know if there is a way through? Thanks very much. ...

Cambodian Visa question re: 6 month validity on Passport requirement

Posted by bumblenut on 22/1/2007 at 19:39

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has had any issues entering Cambodia with less than 6 months validity left on their passport. My current Canadian passport expires in July and I would like to visit Cambodia next week. The Cambodian Ministry of tourism site states that a passport valid for six months is required. I have read elsewhere online that a passport valid for 4 months is required and also that only valid passport is required. I would be able to provide evidence of a return fli ...

Arriving by air to PP International Airport in less than a week. I will be staying for over nine weeks and planned on getting my visa at the airport I thought I would get a business visa as it seems that these are easily extended. Vietnam Visa exemptions for Phu Quoc travel?

Posted by zmerchant on 6/1/2007 at 12:23

Hello. I am planning a trip across the "Travelfish" region beginning later this month, and am about to send off my Vietnam visa app. Then I ran across this site: http://www.vietnamtourism.com/e_pages/news/index.asp?loai=2&uid=1563. I think the article is from Sep, 2005. "...foreigners and Vietnamese nationals bearing foreign passports who want to enter and stay in Phu Quoc Island for less than 15 days will be exempt from visa application. Those who enter Vietnam through an international b ...

VIETNAM OVERSTAY + IMPLICATIONS?

Posted by IslandfielderTrish on 31/12/2006 at 16:54

Does anyone know what the fee (daily?) is for overstaying a Visa in Vietnam. Also - are there any other consequences? ie: might it affect a Visa application in the future? If anyone out there has experience of this, I'd appreciate a steer in the right direction. Weighing up time/etc needed when applying for extn during 3 days in Hoi An or just risking the overstay by 4 days option. Thanks in advance. ...

Laos/Cambodia border crossing - overland

Posted by razzy on 20/12/2006 at 08:26

Hi all. I'm curious and anxious to know about people's experiences crossing the laos/cambodain border overland. My travel agent advised me not to do it, as the Cambodian side is in guerilla territory. If I have to fly, this really disturbs my itinerary, but at the same time I'm not prepared to take too many risks. Any advice/references/personal experience is very welcomed. Thanks! ...

Train from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet

Posted by sputnikrent on 10/12/2006 at 04:23

I'm planning on spending 18 days between Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam during the late Decemeber- mid January time period. I was looking at options for getting from Bangkok to Siem Reap and I noticed in an article that the train ride is highly recommended. Is it easy to get tickets for the train, and will there be seats on the train itself? Also the article talks about the scenic ride, can anyone who has been on the train comment? I'm just wondering if the extra time and possible hassle it t ...

Lao visa exemption for ASEAN

Posted by skinnylatte on 23/11/2006 at 12:51

If I wasn't hallucinating, I do believe that Laos no longer requires a visa for those from my country (i.e. Singapore). That might have happened last year, though information is scarce and the Lao embassy NEVER picks up the phone. I'm sure this will be honoured if I fly in to Laos, but what are the chances that they'll insist on me getting one anyway, if I cross the land borders? That was my experience in Cambodia, when I crossed at Koh Kong and even though I didn't require a visa they made m ...

Vietnam visas - maybe not available between 25 Oct -25 Nov

Posted by ClaireM on 8/11/2006 at 08:08

From NZ Foreign Affairs site Travel to Viet Nam 25 October-25 November 2006 Travellers to Viet Nam should be aware that no D class visitors’ visas will be issued by the Vietnamese government from 25 October to 25 November 2006. This is a precautionary security measure to cover the period of the APEC Conference to be held in Ha Noi from 12 to 19 November 2006. Those, however, intending to visit Viet Nam during this period for the purpose of work, attending a conference, cooperation, inv ...
