Novice Monk at Kompong Khleang along Tonle Sap Lake – Cambodia, Southeast Asia

“You don't take a photograph, you make it.” ― Ansel Adams

Thirty-four miles from Siem Reap is the rural fishing village of Kompong Khleang along Tonle Sap Lake.

Tonle Sap Lake is the largest lake in South East Asia. It is home to over two million people who live on and around the great lake and rely on it for its fishing.

In the village I came across a monastery full of novice monks who were shaving each other heads as they were preparing for a temple ritual. They were kind enough allow me to photograph them and give me a glimpse into their daily lives.

Since it was midday I directed this novice monk into some open shade for some diffused light.

I want to thank you guys for all the views and faves for my Cambodia portrait set. I know portraits do not garner as much attention as HDR or landscape shots, but these photographs have a lot of meaning to me.

Wishing all of you a very merry Christmas!

Check back for more of my adventures in Cambodia! One more photo in the comment section.

Happy Travels!
