Badui village, Banten
Badui village, Banten
A pic of one of the 37 Outer Badui villages. This one is positioned on the side of a hill, with a river down below. The Badui, who eschew all things modern including electricity, vehicles and even soap and toothpaste, live on just 50 km² of hilly forest area – which is incredibly only 120 km from the chaotic metropolis of Jakarta. The Inner Baduy area is completely off limits to foreigners and an extremely strict taboo system is in force there.
The Inner Badui are the only one of these two major clans that have the Pu'un, the spiritual priest of the Baduy. The Pu'un are the only people permitted to visit the most hallowed and sacred ground of the Baduy which lies on Gunung Kendeng, in a place called Arca Domas, the birthplace of this planet and most probably the universe itself.
