This is a boring shot. I should have turned my camera to the left to feature the colorful exterior of my hotel.

While visiting Kuala Lumpur I stayed in a Tune Hotel which is a limited service budget hotel chain started by Tony Fernandes, the founder and CEO of Asia’s no frills and low cost airline AirAsia (Asia’s equivalent of America’s Southwest Airlines). When I booked the hotel online they had the catchy phrase, "5-star sleeping experience at a 1-star price" accommodation.

So along the same fashion as a no frills budget airline, they have adopted the same business model for the hospitality industry, low prices and a pay-as-you-use concept. Your room cost just includes your bed and bathroom and everything else that would be normally included in a regular hotel is extra,

For example, you pay extra for:

12 or 24 hour air-conditioning
Internet access

I like the concept because when I travel for both pleasure or business I never fully use all the included amenities of the hotel whether it be the spa, gym or free breakfast (especially if I am out early to photograph a sunrise). Why pay for something you don’t use?

So why did I take this photo? I was in my hotel room when the air conditioning shut off (a real problem in hot and humid Kuala Lumpur). So I grabbed my camera and mini-tripod on the way downstairs to pay for another 12 hours of precious air conditioning ($12.99) and to photograph the blue hour.

So here is a boring shot of Kuala Lumpur’s traffic. The elevated track you see above is the city’s public monorail system. As a native Southern Californian I rarely take public transportation and the only time I take a monorail ride is when I am at Disneyland, so I thought it was cool to ride it everyday.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving faves and comments. I am glad you enjoy my photostream.

You still need to pay $12.99 for clicking this photo.

Kuala Lumpur is the modern, bustling and lush-green capital of Malaysia, a testament to the Southeast Asian nation clawing its way in recent decades out of the developing world and into the WiFi-enabled modern one.

At the confluence of the Klang and Gombak rivers, and lying just over 30 kilometres from the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, KL, as it is commonly known, is not as old as some other Southeast Asian capitals. But it still lays claim to some historical sites of interest, such as mosques, temples, and British colonial-era architecture.

The past and present collide here, with the city's modern architecture also a real pull. The city boasts some amazing cutting-edge buildings, such as the the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, the tallest twin towers in the world, and Menara KL, the world's fourth tallest communications tower, for starters. The city, together with the surrounding Klang valley, is the fastest growing area in Malaysia, and ... Read our complete Kuala Lumpur travel guide
