Bang Tao Beach
Eat and meet
Bang Tao
There isn't a whole lot of choice when it comes to dining in Bang Tao, and most restaurants are tied to a resort. For beachside dining, the options in southern Bang Tao are the Java cafe at Lagoon Bungalows or the Andaman seafood restaurant. The buffet breakfast at the Java Cafe is a reasonable 160B, but the a la carte menu is another story -- 140B for fried rice?
If you'd prefer an eatery with some personality try Nok &Jo's Famous Bar and Restaurant. Opened by a Canadian tsunami volunteer and his Thai wife (the sweet story of how they met is printed in the menu), this two-level thatched shanty belongs on some hippy beach on Ko Phangan. In addition to the massive menu (burgers, shakes, noodles, wine, seafood, cocktails...) they have BBQ buffets and live music during high season.
If you've been craving some bread without white sugar as the first ingredient, follow the road past Nok and Jo's and you'll stumble upon a sunny yellow building known as The Pantry Bakery. In addition to yummy baking and real coffee, they do full Sunday roast dinners.
For finer dining, the area surrounding the Laguna Complex is home to a myriad of up-scale international restaurants. Rain-Hail Restaurant and Lounge has a gourmet fusion menu and free tapas until 20:00. In an enviable seafront spot, the Babylon Beach Club serves Thai favorites at quite reasonable prices.
Just outside the Laguna Complex gates and much less formal, The Supper Club is known for its Australian beef, wine list, and cheesecake.
