Downtown Yala, around the train station is bulked up with noodle and rice shopfronts along with a couple of more comfortable spots. There is an outstanding seafood place around the corner from the Yala Rama which must be tried.

You've died and gone to seafood heaven when you get here, and if you're anything like us you'll leave totally gorged and surprisingly not too poor. For starters, the BBQ fish in banana leaf is simply amazing. Other standard seafood dishes are available and though they don't have an English menu, one or two of the staff speak English. At worst, just go to the BBQ and request one serving of fish, one serving of prawns, one serving of squid and a bucket of mussels, wash down with a cold beer!
