Warung Melati

Superb Indonesian food

Photo of Warung Melati

What we say: 4.5 stars

Warung Melati serves quite possibly the tastiest Indonesian food you will ever try -- it is absolutely sensational.

It's a favourite hang-out for the local expat crowd and some of the characters that pass through can be downright pretentious, but if you can ignore that, this is a marvellous spot for lunch. You approach the counter and select your colour of rice: white, yellow or red and then proceed to point out the dishes you'd like added to your plate from the selection behind the glass window. There are very rarely any dishes on offer that would offend many Western palates such as offal and it's usually simply a selection of fish, beef, chicken and vegetables. The price of your plate is dependent on how high you pile it, but for 35,000 rupiah you can get a selection of three meat dishes and a heap of vegetables. Stick to vegetables and the price remains low. Payment occurs at the end of the meal and a selection of juices is always on offer, but these are more expensive than the soft drinks. Warung Melati open for lunch only and is closed on Monday.
