Warung Babi Guling Ibu Oka
Delicious roast pork
What we say:
One of the big culinary experiences for visitors to Bali is a trip to Ibu Oka in Ubud for some of their famous roast pork.
Out the front of the warung you will see a bunch of women up to their elbows in pig meat as they carve up the latest beast to be eaten.
They do a roaring trade here, so upon entering you will have to push your way past the hordes and elbow your way into a space on the raised pavilion where you'll be required to sit on the floor around a knee-high table.
It's normal to just get a standard portion of babi guling, a drink and nothing else. The pork arrives on a dish with a plate of rice, some crackling, Balinese spice paste and if you're lucky, some blood sausage.
In a matter of five minutes it's all over and done with and there's nothing to hang around for. By local standards this is an expensive warung but that said, it's not a warung just put on for tourists and the food here is praised by Balinese everywhere as being some of the best babi guling around.
