Pha Khao Lao

Best selection of Lao food

No pic at the moment -- Sorry!

What we say: 4.5 stars

Tucked away on the alley between Wat Ong Teu and the river road, Pha Khao Lao is often overlooked, but shouldn't be if you're on the lookout for excellent Lao and Thai cooking.

The restaurant extends across a terrace shrouded in lanterns and champa trees, offering excellent ambience in addition to an extensive menu on which there's a little something for everyone. Soups and curries are well made, but if you want to branch out to something new, try possibly the best duck laap in town, fried fish in tamarind sauce or prawns stir-fried with chunks of young coconut.

Prices run from 20,000-50,000 per dish. Standard drinks are available, but cocktails and mixed drinks are definitely not a specialty.
