Amphone

Lao elegance

What we say: 4 stars

Easily the most elegant spot to sample Lao cuisine, Amphone Restaurant is set in a gorgeous indoor/outdoor area on a quiet lane behind Wat Xieng Gnuen.

The food is as appealing as the serene setting and was good enough for celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain's introduction to Lao cuisine when he visited in 2008. Dishes like laap, eggplant dip, grilled fish and curries are richly seasoned with fresh herbs and fish sauce and, unless you request it extra spicy, the use of chilli is minimal enough that everyone can enjoy the food.

There's no better way to spend an evening than savouring their tasting menu and a glass or two of wine while soaking up Amphone's atmosphere.

Amphone is located down a smaller road around the corner from Jazzy Brick's on Setthathirath Road.
