Old Town White Coffee
Local and sweet
What we say:
If you're looking for a local franchise chain for your caffeine, Old Town White Coffee is a good starting point.
The "white coffee" refers to style of roasting which originated in Ipoh, which makes for a less bitter brew. Old Town's decor can seem a bit contrived, particularly as traditional family-run coffee shops are an endangered species in KL, but they are not bad places for a pit stop.
The food, made up of Malaysian favourites such as nasi lemak (coconut rice with peanuts, fried anchovies, hard boiled egg, and a chilli paste called sambal tumis) and kaya (fruit jam) toast, is generally tasty and reasonably priced. Ask for the sugar to be toned down in drinks unless you have a very sweet tooth.
