Din Tai Fung

Of great dumpling fame

Photo of Din Tai Fung

What we say: 3.5 stars

This Taiwanese restaurant is famous for their dumplings — particularly the xiao long bao filled with pork and herbal soup broth.

Better still, you can watch them being hand-made through the glass walls of the kitchen. It takes a few baskets to make a meal (from around S$5), but the heartier Chinese fare like fried rice, noodle soup and stir-fried veggies are just as tasty and affordable. For a mall restaurant Din Tai Fung has stately décor but very brisk service — there's always a queue of customers waiting for a table. Additional locations at Wisma Atria, Raffles Place, and 313 @ Somerset.
