Yummy Viet

What we say: 4 stars

If you're looking for decent Vietnamese food in the heart of Singapore's Chinatown, Yummy Viet, on Smith Street is a solid and not too expensive option right in the middle of things.

Yummy Viet is right on Smith Street, in the midst of the revamped, quite touristic, Chinatown Food Street and offers healthy rice paper rolls, bánh mì (baguette sandwiches), noodle salad with barbecue pork and herbs and steaming bowls of pho bo (beef noodle soup). Prices for the food are reasonable, though beer is oddly expensive, and, while the service and ambience are minimal, at these prices you can't complain too much.

Grab a seat outside to maximise your people watching potential and bear in mind that in the evening Smith Street gets extremely congested with tourists, so if you're after an intimate quiet dinner, this probably is not the place.

If you don't mind the walk, there is also some decent Vietnamese down on at the Viet Inn at 49 Circular Road behind Boat Quay. It's a 20 minute walk (or one stop on the SMRT) from Chinatown, but a far less frenzied affair. The food is equally good and the setting more conducive to a pleasant meal.
