The Orange Lantern
Midrange Vietnamese standards and twists
What we say:
Just five minutes away from Orchard Road, the Orange Lantern serves modern Vietnamese in a cosy shophouse setting.
While you can't go wrong with standards like summer rolls and pho noodle soup, the highlights are less traditional dishes like barbecue beef wrapped in betel leaves and vegetable curry with French bread to soak up the rich sauce. Prices are midrange but the lunch set is a steal at S$12 for an appetiser, main and drink — upgrade to Vietnamese drip coffee for a couple of dollars. Look for the orange lantern in the doorway, obviously.
