Bug and Bee Cafe

Convenient location, eclectic food

What we say: 3.5 stars

In the shadow of Sala Daeng BTS station on a lively stretch of Silom Road, Bug and Bee is a worthy place for a quick meal (especially for vegetarians) or a couple of hours of lounging with a coffee.

One of Bangkok's more eclectic menus offers classic Thai dishes, a range of large and well prepared salads, daring fusion selections like "Asian-style duck confit in cranberry ginger sauce", and a healthy array of vegetarian choices with Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Italian and French influences. While we found the shrimp kee mao (drunken noodles) overpriced and unimpressive, the eggplant miso sauce wrapped in seaweed appetiser was unique, tasty and large enough to be a lunch at 95 baht.

While most vegetarian dishes run around 100 baht, fusion mains and savoury crepes can cost up to 300 baht and above, so be selective if on a budget.

The cafe is open 24 hours, making it a great spot to grab a late night coffee and slice of cake, but the kitchen shuts down at 22:00.
