Charlie Brown's Mexican Cantina

Excellent margaritas

What we say: 3.5 stars

Charlie's Cantina opened in 1992 to bring sustenance to a city hungry for Mexican food.

OK, well maybe it was expat and travelling North Americans who were hungry, but either way, Charlie's Cantina served it up.

The menu reads like an edited version (a good, concise edit) of many tex-mex eateries: tacos and tacitos, enchiladas, fajitas, chiles rellenos and chimichangas.

While some of their dishes are a compromise of availability versus authenticity (cream cheese filled chiles rellenos with bacon? FAIL.), but then again, tex-mex was born from that same compromise. Most of their menu is solidly delicious. Excellent margaritas make everything seem better anyway.

Tacos from 80 baht, mains 195-380 baht, margaritas 160 baht.
