Cake and breakfast heaven
What we say:
Located in the classy West Lake area, this old European-style bistro and bakery serves up some of the best baked goods and breakfasts in Hanoi.
Mountains of sweet and savoury pastries and crepes or eggs benedict made from scratch are impossible to resist, but our favourite is the Saint Honore, a tempting mix of egg, potato, bacon and mushroom wrapped up in a thick bechamel sauce.
Lunch and dinner menus include light selections that include a veggie hummus platter and Landaise salad with duck and bacon, or more filling choices like a delicious Philly steak sandwich. Those with a seriously hearty appetite might go for boeuf bourguignon, duck leg confit, seafood gratin or a range of pasta dishes.
Hot teas, coffee, juices, alcohol and old-style milkshakes are also available. Just be sure to save room for what are probably the best cakes in town. Tuck into a slice at one of the spacious on-site wood tables spread over two floors or have it wrapped for lakeside indulgence. Saint Honore has another branch near Vincom Towers but it's takeaway only.
Breakfasts range from around 55,000to 145,000 VND, while a coffee and cake should be around 100,000 VND. You can quickly pay upward of 300,000 VND for starter, main and single alcoholic drink, so this isn't a budget joint, but worthy of a treat if you're so inclined.
