Exploring Bangkok by skytrain -- Ratchadamri
Station number S1 on the Silom Line and only one stop away from Siam, the main interchange station, Ratchadamri BTS is one of only a few stations on the Skytrain line that doesn't really offer all that much in terms of exploring. The station is within easy walking distance to several important points of interest, but there are other stations that are even closer.
On the west side of the station is the gargantuan Royal Bangkok Sports Club (RBSC) which takes up most of the eastern side of Ratchadamri road. The RBSC is an established, distinguished and exclusive sports club that has everything from horse racing and golf to squash and expensive cigar clubs. You have to be a member to even have access to their website; needless to say, probably not something you need to look into to.
The area on the north end of Ratchadamri BTS is mostly taken up by expensive hotels such as The Four Seasons and the Grand Hyatt Erawan, along with tall, upscale condo buildings. There's little to see around the feet of these towering giants save for the odd cluster of food stalls tucked away in the maze of alleys and sois that run in and around them.
The best thing to get to if using this station is Sarasin Road, an east-west road that connects Ratchadamri Road and Wireless Road. Running along the northern edge of Lumphini Park, it has several bars and clubs that generate lots of crowds and music on the weekends. Indeed, you can probably find some semblance of a party going on most nights. A favorite here is Brown Sugar for live jazz.
