Good Cambodia And Vietnam Maps

Hi,
My husband and I are about to spend 6 months cycling through S.E. Asia. We have good road maps for Thailand and Laos but not yet for Cambodia and Vietnam. Anyone know of a good road map/s for these two countries?
We would like to stay off the highways as much as possible so the more detailed the better.
We are in Melbourne at the moment so we would need to buy them here or be able to buy them online.
Thanks

We're cycling from Bangkok to Singapore, a wonderfull, very scenery route! While our idea of cycling through South East was quit spontaneous, we bought our bicycles at Probike in Bangkok.

We cycle mainly on tarmac, this is why we choosed for the Trek FX 7.2, 20 inch (51cm) en 22,5 inch (57cm) in a black colour. I'm 1.75 metre high and my husband is 1,90 metre high. The bandwidth is 700x35 and we're content with this choice.

We changed the cycling rapper for a better version and one of the bicycles has an Italian comfort gel saddle. Furthermore we have four black-red Ortlieb Back-Roller City bags and two black-red Ortlieb Front-Roller City bags.

The two bicycles are bought on the 22nd of June 2011 and together with all the extra gear ...

Dear all,

I am looking to buy a second hand bike which will be used for a trip starting in Cambodia and ending in China, which I hope to set off on in around2 months time. I am 6'3" and so need a large frame (ideally 23 inches),and of course it needs to be in great condition to make the trip and then be sold in China.
If anyone has a bike matching this spec for sale I’d love to hear about it. I live in Siem Reap in Cambodia so if needs be I can make it to most places in Cambodia or even Bangkok and all areas between there and Siem Reap.

Or I would be extremely grateful if anyone knows of a good quality bikeshop in Bangkok where I can buy second hand bikes and discuss my requirements with the staff? I am aware I am most likely ...

Cycling Through Southern China From Vietnam

Dear all,

I previously posted this on a different forum within travelfish before learning of this forum dedicated to cycling in Asia...

I propose to cycle from Phnom Penh in Cambodia to either Manning or, maybe further (perhaps Guangzhou), in southern China. I am fairly confident that the Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam legs can be achieved (I have travelled Southeast Asia extensively and lived in Cambodia for the last 2 years), however I have never visited Southern China and am aware that the culture will vary quite dramatically as will the terrain, climate and of course many more factors. I want to ask if anyone has any advice or knowledge on this region (and all the regions proposed in fact) and therefore can share any useful ...

Hi there
As the title suggests, I'm planning on cycling from Thailand, into Laos and through into Cambodia in June of this year, on my bike, alone, all in just over two weeks.

I'm hoping to take overnight trains to and from Laos border crossings and take boats as transport allows.

Am I way out of touch with reality and making a really bad choice here?

If not, all suggestions/ideas/advice welcome.

Cheers,

OK, firstly, thank you so much for any feedback; its really appreciated!

Just under 11 months time I want to ride a bike an unforgettably long distance for charity. A lifetime experiance that I can raise plenty of money for a good cause.

After recently returning from a trip to Thailand and Laos I thought what better way to combine it than with a 2nd trip.

Now I understand that this is a BIG distance at some 2100km! And I have checked out some of the posts previous which talk about senic routes allbeit they are for motorbikes. But at this stage I have a few questions....

- How decent are the roads? Would a road bike be wise? Hybrid? Last thing I want to take is a moutain bike but I aslo dont want to be getting RSI/buckling wheels ...

From research, distance from Bangkok to Poipet (bordertown of Cambodia) is ap 230km. I think I can make it within 3 days on easy cyling. But there seems to be many roads to chose from.
Hey everyone!

I'm Jochem, a 20 year-old Dutchman who's traveling SEA at his own leisure. Now, I have been from Hanoi to Phu Quoc island & back to Saigon on a motorbike, and now that I've pretty much seen Vietnam (loved it!) I'm looking for a new adventure in a new country!

So I sold my motorbike in HCMC and went to Cambodia with the plan of buying a bicylcle in Phnom Penh and riding it to Siem Reap (or further), really taking my time and no rushing, so that I can fully enjoy the country!

Question is, is anyone here up for joining me? I did most of my motorbike trip with other people too and though I still enjoyed it on my own, I prefer the company of another person! Cycling through Cambodia definitely sounds like a more ...

Ho Chi Minh Trail - What's The Best & What's Paved?

I'm having some trouble determining exactly what parts of the Ho Chi Minh Trail are exactly paved. Heard that north of <a href="http://www.travelfish.org/location/vietnam/central_vietnam/thua_thien_hue/hue">Hue</a> was good to ride, but even that was more hearsay than fact. Want to ride it for at least a few days, though it seems doing so in the north is much more easy and accessible... if it's paved, since we'd rather not take our mountain bikes on muddy and hilly trails for days on end if we can avoid it.

Any help's greatly appreciated,
Thanks

I've just added the first instalment on what should be a 16-week series, following a group of five American travellers cycling around Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

They're sending a story to us for publication every Wednesday talking about, well, "the travel experience".

The first piece (<a href='http://www.travelfish.org/feature/160'>available here</a>) is just an introduction to "the team" -- there is a lot more on the way.

This is a bit of an experiment for us and I hope you find their travels and experiences of interest. And a big fat thank you to Anderson and Co for making the effort to put this all together.
