Hello all,
My boyfriend and I are currently in Pai, Thailand and are reviewing our itinerary with some new possibilities in mind.
We have spent a month in Myanmar and close to three weeks in Thailand now. Our original plan was to head over to Cambodia, then to VIetnam and finally to Laos (spending about a month in each country) before heading to Australia (working holiday visa).

So here is where I need some help. I've always wanted to go to Nepal and after talking to a few people we are considering it. We're travelling on a budget so to head over to Nepal we would need to cut out at least one country here in SEA. Is it worth it to cut out one of these countries and focus on Nepal instead? If so, which country should we cut?

In terms ...

I'm planning a four week trip to SE Asia for our Honeymoon in Oct-Nov. This is the first time we've gotten anything close to four weeks straight for travel, and I don't think it will happen again for a long time. Since this may be our only opportunity for a while, I've been wrestling between seeing a few places but getting to spend a lot of time at each, or seeing a medium number of places but only being able to spend a medium amount of time at each. Right now I think the plan I have leans towards the latter.

Any suggestions on this itinerary would be greatly appreciated - is this a reasonable amount of time to enjoy each destination, or would I be better off cutting out a few places? If the latter, any suggestions on which places ...

Hey, I'm after some advice as my friend and I are both going travelling in May 2013.We are both female (21 and 26- both first time travellers) we have our flights booked for bangkok and are staying for 4 nights then move down towards the islands.
My question is would it be better to travel back up to bangkok after the islands to cross over into a neighbouring country or is there a different route we could take? We are wanting to travel thailand, cambodia, laos and vietnam. We would be flying back to the uk from bangkok so would like to do some kind of loop. Which way would be better in regards to weather? We are spending 30 days in thailand then are open to do whatever.
Thanks in advance.

Hello fellow travellers,

We are a small group of ladies (+/- 5-6) in our mid-twenties that are looking to travel to South East Asia from South Africa for 4 weeks over December 2013/January 2014 (projected dates in SEA are 12/12/2013 - 11/1/2014). We would like to cover Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam during this time. So much to see - so little time! We are pretty clueless at this stage, but we do know that we would like to do it on a medium to low budget (the Rand doesn't go very far! 1 ZAR = 889.21729 LAK) although we definitely don't want to miss out on anything and would like to stay in decent, well-run backpackers (or guesthouses if decent backpackers aren't an option in some places) more for the social element, but also the lower cost ...

Hi, I am new to the forum and hope I posted at the right place. I will be travelling with my family (All adults) in June and have 30 days for Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. Starting in Bangkok I would appreciate some feedback on the following proposed itinerary:

Bangkok 5 nights (arrival and departure), Siem Reap 4 nights, Phnom Phen 2 nights, Vientiane 3 nights, Luang Prabang 4 nights, Chiangmai 4 nights. I am allowing the remaining days for travel and unplanned events or to extend my stay on one of the locations.

I would appreciate comments on the following:

1. Does this sound like a reasonable itinerary for the time we have
2. Any suggestions to reduce or add time in any of the locations
3. Any location that I should/could add (We ...

Hi everyone, thanks for clicking.

So I'm now over half-way through my first ever solo trip around SEA, and really enjoying it so far. I've had one month in Thailand (Bangkok and north), one month in Laos and one in Cambodia. I'm now in Ho Chi Minh, and planning to work my way north over the next 25 days or so. My dilemma is what to do next.

I have a return flight booked for late March, but I'm able to put it back by up to two months, so I'm planning to extend the trip by at least 2-3 weeks.

The original plan was to fly from Hanoi back to Bangkok and see some of south Thailand for a few weeks, but I'm having doubts as to how much I'd enjoy the scene down there. From talking to other travelers it sounds like it's all parties, drugs, ...

Hi, I've been reading Travelfish for the last month or so trying to put together a rough travel itenerary together for a trip in May of this year. As I was invited to go with the group (Myself and five others) I do not have complete control over where we will be traveling to, however I'm comfortable diverging from the pack if need be for a short period of time.

As of now our group plans to fly into Hanoi Vietnam on the 30th of April and spend about 5-6 days there. We're planning on doing a 3 day Ha Long Bay tour through our Hostel (Vietnambackpackers) and spend the other days exploring things in close proximiting to Hanoi itself (If I had control over the planning I would actually cut out Vietnam entirely and do it on another trip; ...

Oh hi there, thanks for clicking.

OK, I've got a lot of time or just a little, depending on how you look at it. I must be in Siem Reap on Feb 19 to see Angkor Wat, and I am now in Pai. What would you do?

Because I'm interested in meeting real people and having "real" experiences here with natives, as opposed to further hanging out with guys/gals with mustache-print tank tops and buzz cuts or fake dreads, so far I'm thinking,

A) Laos
Somehow make it to the border and take 5 days through Laos. I'm more interested in country side than tourists stuff or urban areas, but I know I'm really limiting myself by not knowing squat about countryside stuff and how to get there. If I had two weeks, no problem, but 5 days, I'd ...

Hi everyone,

I have done some travelling with through my job before - I am an engineer on cruise ships - however I have never gone on a backpacking trip before! I'm set on travelling SE Asia with a friend and have set aside 8 weeks to do so - leaving around October 1st of this year and returning in mid-December.

From reading other posts in forums I think the general consensus is to plan less and try not squeeze too many places in. I do, however, have a rough idea of an itintery and was wondering what you're thoughts are on it (please excuse any spelling errors):

Fly into Bangkok, night train up to Chiang Mai possibly stopping at Ayutthaya or Phitsanuok on the way, across Laos border into Houay Xai. From here a down to Luang ...

Hi all,

My boyfriend and I are last-year law students really wanting to do a S.E.A trip after we take our big Bar exam in July here in Miami, Fla. We have traveled abroad before, but neither of us have ever been to Asia. We plan on spending about 3 weeks on our trip total (including any flying/travel time to get there). We do not know if or when we will ever get an opportunity like this again, so we want to make the most of our trip. Planning is key!

There are so many places to see and things to do, so we are a little overwhelmed of where to start. The more we read, the more we want to see. We will be traveling on a student budget, so staying on our planned $2500-$2800/person budget is key for us. Is this a reasonable cost? We are not ...

I'm travelling with my husband and our 3 boys (11,13,16). We've only got 3 wks and the objective is to get a feel for as much as possible in the little time we have, because I don't think we, by that, I mean the parents, will ever get a chance to return. I'm guessing most of it will have to be booked before we even leave Ireland, because, getting flights for 5 people on Fokker-sized planes is proving problematic, esp. with airlines such as laoairlines.com, where they appear to be all booked up or not flying on that day. 2-Should I consider going overland from Bangkok to LP and from Bangkok to Siem Reap to save money or is too much of a hassle? The trip reports about Bangkok-Poipet aren't very encouraging.
