Hi All

I am travelling to SEA in Feb 2012 for one month and I would really appreciate some help planning my itinerary. I will tell you what I have in mind but advice from some people in the know would be greatfully appreciated. I fly into Bangkok and plan on spending 2-3 nights here, I was then thinking about flying to PP in Cambodia and on to Siem Reap and explore Angkor Wat for a few days. I then plan on flying back to Bangkok and getting the train to Vientiane in Loas, then heading on to Luang Prabang by bus. From there I plan on getting the slowboat Nagi of Mekong to Chiang Mai and finally flying from Chiang Mai to Phuket. I am then flying to Perth from Bangkok. Is this possible in one month and is this the best route to ...

me and two friends plan to have a gap year before uni and spend some time in thailand, laos and vietnam. probably may to july next year.
what sort of budget would we be looking at needing for 2 and a half months? ive looked up flights and the best ive found is £550 for a return to bangkok. were up for hostels, but would prefer a more private room in them? were planning on being on a backpackers budget, but would like a nicer hotel once in a while?
we definitely want to see erawan falls, ride an elephant and go snorkelling with turtles. in terms of drinking, we'd like to see some of the night life, but definitely not every night. maybe once a week plus wine with dinner kinda thing?
we've never been backpacking before, so any help would ...

Hi Guys,

I’m planning a trip for early December to Asia. I have about 25 days to play with.

My plan so far is to fly into Bangkok & visit the Similan Islands on a liveaboard for a few days & then check out Ko Raya Island too. Would you recommend Ko Raya? I don’t know very much about it so if anybody can recommend any more islands close by that are worth visiting that would really help too.

I’ve already done Koh Tao, Phi Phi, Samui & would like to visit some different places!! I’m looking for chilled out idyllic places where you can still have a bit of a party or drink but not as full on.

From there I have all kinds of ideas and would love some input from people that may have been to these places before.

Last year I ...

Hi!

We currently in Cambodia and move to Vientam soon after spending almost 3 weeks in this amazing country... We plan to do Vietnam for also about 3 weeks and after this we also save some time for Thailand in the end for like 3 weeks of parties and shopping before coming back to our homes in Israel... This leaves us with a gap of 2-3 weeks between Vietnam and the end in Thailand which we want to fill with another Asian country we haven't been. So far we've been in Thailand (2.5 months), Laos (10 days), Cambodia (will be 3 weeks) and we''ll enter Vietnam in the next few days.

Here's what we looking for, maybe u can recommend us:

1. Interesting culture and good style- we really like the style of the south korean and japanese, but the ...

Hi all,

Was interested in feedback on our proposed itinerary for Laos, Cambodia & Vietnam. What do you guys think? Any "must-sees" missing?

Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia (67 days)
- we generally like to travel in the slower side, preferring on spend at least 3 days in the majority of places, and longer in major cities/sites (though there will certainly be exceptions)
- most into nature & food, followed by culture/history. not big on "party places"
- tried to structure the "loop" to follow the weather [starting early-mid Nov and ending mid-Jan]
- "planned" number of nights is in [x] but it's just an idea...we were going to try to play it by ear (which will be um...*interesting* for a ...

Hi, due to head of on a trip around se asia next week with my girlfriend nd i plan on being in thailand around October time.

Just wondering whether it is necessary to book homestay's well in advance or is it possible to book them, say a couple of days in advance???

Really want to do one in thailand...but as my plans will be changing as i travel it would be difficult to book this far in advance....has anyone ever had this problem?

Also does anyone have any suggestions for a good homestay that involves living with a hill tribe...bit of cooking... detox and a few other activities to experience real thai life...

I am starting a job in Thailand and I have to be there on the 17th of September. I am going to be running really low on money by then so I am thinking that I will just go somewhere and plant for a month or so. It doesn't have to be in Thailand but should be in SE Asia. Where would you guys go? Here is a short list of things I am looking for but none are requirements, just ideals.
1) Beach
2) Cheap (lodging, food, beer)
3) Has things to do (either activities or sights) and a fair amount of people around

That's about it. Would love to hear some ideas!

So I'm planning to go to the Full Moon Party on August 14 and am trying to figure out how quickly I can get from Hanoi to Ko Pha Ngan , in one day if possible.

On August 13 (one day before the party) using Air Asia I know I can fly from Hanoi to Bangkok and get it at around 11am. From Bangkok I can fly into Surat Thani arriving at 3:30pm.

My question is how to get from Surat Thani to Ko Pha Ngan after 3:30pm. I've been researching this but havent found anything concrete saying I can do it.

Am I cutting it too close? Also does the fact that it's Full Moon make it any harder?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I am currently living and working in China, and I'll be heading off on a four-month trip around Laos, Vietnam, Nepal and India soon. I have a Bank of China ATM card that I can't use outside China, but I've heard that Union Pay is accepted in other countries. Can anyone tell me if they have used a Union Pay card in Laos, Vietnam, Nepal or India? I will be travelling to these countries in a couple of months and I need to know if I can access my funds...

If not, can anyone suggest the best way I can travel with the money I've been painstakingly saving for the last six months??

I am planning a trip for March 2012 and I was wondering if any of you think that this itinerary is doable. I will be flying on points, so I am flying in/out of Bangkok as that is the only option.

Hello everybody,

I'm planning to spend some time in SE Asia later this year (October/November time). Budget will determine exactly how long but probably looking at 6-7 weeks.

I've travelled in India and Nepal before, but no further east. I'd love to visit Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. I'm quickly realising that's a lot of ground to cover in my relatively short space of time... So perhaps one trip this year and save up go again next year.

It's been a while since I've travelled solo and planned a big trip and, well, there's so much info and so many sites out there, I'm a bit overwhelmed...where do I start?

I don't want to rush around and spend tons of time on transport. As a long female traveller with appalling sense of ...

I have 17 days at my disposal to visit SE Asia at the end of September. Our flights land in Bangkok. I've visited Bangkok, ChaingMai, Koh Phangan, Siem Reap, Perhentian Islands, and KL a couple of years ago. I was also in Timor Leste, Singapore and Bali (v unimpressed with Bali btw - Bangkok on the beech) earlier this year.

The only place I feel like visiting is Kanchanaburri. Other than that I need some ideas. I'm going with the missus who did quite well the last time around (surprised me anyway), I was expecting and adverse reaction to ...

Firstly, I have to take the chance to say what an incredible site this is, and how genuinely helpful the articles and advice here have been in convincing us to do this trip!

So we are a 23 & 26y.o couple, neither have travelled overseas before and we definitely feel like it's time for our first adventure together. We will be flying in from Australia to KL late April 2012 and plan on backpacking for around 18 months.

We've done a solid amount of research and basically want to do an entire loop covering...
• Malaysia / Borneo
• Philipines
• Indonesia
• Thailand
• Cambodia
• Laos
• Myanmar
• Vietnam
• I have no idea if it will be realistic, but we would love to see Nepal too.
