Only bit still to be added is the diving section which will be on in a coupla days.

We have been to Bali many times and have an ex-pat brother who lives in Sanur. He now has a Balinese "family" and we are lucky to have experienced local family life in villages during ceremonials times. That being said, we have always left Bali and have traveled Asia - our brother has convinced us that we are missing out on the rest of Indonesia and I am ashamed to say after some research - he is right!!! The problem is there is so much to chose from and everything is amazing - what do you do? Well, as a typical American we have way tooooo little time so I want to maximize what we see and do. As I said, we have our home base in Bali and saw the Parama boat tour - it seems like we could leave from Bali and see quite a bit going ...

Yogya-Bromo-Bali -- Travel Advice?

We are in Jogyakarta right now, and want to get to Bali via Bromo.

Does anyone have any advice on what the easiest, most comfortable way to do this is? We could get a 3 day 2 night trip by mini bus from Yogya to Bali with stops at Bromo and Ijen, but we're slightly concerned about safety, especially with the roads around Ijen. Also, the lack of a toilet makes the mini bus option a bit more uncomfortable than taking a train.

Another option seems to involve getting to Probolinggo and doinh Bromo from there. (Is this a daytip with an early start or do we have to stay in a village near bromo overnight?) But does anyone know whether there is a direct train from Yogya, or whether we need to stay a night somewhere on the way? Or whether we ...

Please Help! Travel Route Advice Needed

Hey guys! We finally arrived in Yogya today and really like it so far. We"ll probably stay here for a week and then proceed o make our way towards Bali.
We are hoping to arrive in Ubud on the 9th of August, and we are planning to leave yogya at the 4th. Inbetween, we would like to do Mt. Bromo and Kawah Ijen, then take the ferry to Bali.
My questions: Do you think 5 days are a reasonable time to travel from Yogy to Bali with these two stops? And what do you think will be the least painful and most sensible travel route for the days between the 4h and the 9th of August?

Thanks very much!!

Hey guys,
so, I decided to start a new thread here, since the topic is more specific than the one of my last post.
I made a list of the stuff we're thinking of taking to Indonesia so far.
Just a quick reminder, we'll be in Indonesia for pretty much a month, starting in Yogya, Mt Bromo, Ijen crater, overland to Bali, Ubud, then to Gili islands -- so pretty beaten track. It'll be our first time to I., so we'd be really thankful for any advice concering the packing list (what to add, what to leave).
(btw. we're probably not taking anti-malaria, not even standby (or should we?), so mosquito protection is quite important to us. Also, we prefer to have pretty much everything we need there for the first three days or so before we leave for the ...

I was looking for any good advice for everything on tips to island hop, hostels, border crossing within the region, and good dive sites. I know that the area is relatively inexpensive but what is a good price range to keep in mind for the explorers that have destined here. I perfer to stay off the beaten path and to stay in hostels or a hammock on the beach, (sorry to whom it concerns, but tourists with hats and fanny-packs are of little taste to me). Also what is the best airport to fly into price wise, and the "chicken bus" considerations, as they are called in S. America. I am dive qualified and love nature.
Hi there,

so, my partner and I now have about less than a week before we fly to Indonesia (traveling through Java and Bali, with a trip to the Gilis for a month). We are soooo excited, but of course also a bit nervous as this is our first time to Indonesia.
We thought about a few questions which might sound silly to someone who's already been there, but would make our planning so much easier.

1. we previously thought that we don't need vaccinations or malaria tablets given that we'll only be in Java and Bali, but I'm getting a bit unsure now about this after reading in the LP Indonesia. Would you recommend any las minute vaccinations and/or anti-malaria medication?

2. We'd like to go snorkeling on the Gili islands, but don't have any ...

Now, I know it may be a bit late for this (we#re leaving in ten days), but would you recommend any vaccinations for Java, Bali and Gili Islands? So, we're basically planning a rather beaten track -- Yogya, Malang, Mt. Bromo, Ijen crater, coffee plantations around there, over to Bali, Ubud and around, then Gili islands.

Would be great to hear from you!

Hi all,

I am planning to spend about one month in Bali in late august til mid september.
As it is my first solo trip, i'm afraid no to meet anyone there, and i'd like to meet people doing the same trip.

I planned to go to the main touristic places, but maybe not that much Kuta. I will spend also some times in Lombok or the Gili Islands, but i'm open to others destinations.

What do you think about travelling alone for the first time in Bali ? I guess it is an easy trip, but still wondering if there are a lot of people travelling alone...

Cheers,

Jungles Near Java/bali Area?

Hey all I'm heading abroad for several months and I have a friend who is going to accompany me for only 24 days before he has to head back home so he will only be doing the Indonesian part of my trip. He really has his heart set on exploring some jungles (we're both former Marines who love camping and being outside) but it seems like trying to add a trip to Borneo into the itinerary would eat up unnecessary time and money whether by boat or air.

I was wonderingn if there are any jungles around Java or Bali which can be explored for a day or two? Something that won't eat up a several days by boat to get to or much money by air.

I have all the time in the world so I don't care much by my buddy is on a time crunch and hasn't really done ...

Hello everyone!

I'm sure you're sick of these by now, but I have yet another Java and Bali itinerary for you to evaluate! I have about two weeks. I'm flying into Denpasar on the 10th of August, and flying back to Japan from Jakarta.

I'm thinking something like this...
3-4 nights Ubud
2 nights Lovina (or some other quieter beach location, not far from the ferry crossings to Java. The exact location isn't terribly important, but I'd rather not rent a car, and I'd like to be someplace quieter, and, you know... Balier).
2 - 3 nights crossing east Java... I'm having trouble routing this part of the trip, as far as places to stop, and what places connect.
4 nights Yogyakarta , fly to Jakarta
1 night Jakarta

Yes, this is very ...

I'm heading to Bali in August and wanting to climb Batur and explore the surrounding area.
Hi,
We're looking for somewhere to stay cheaply for a month whilst applying on line for jobs. We want to be very close to a surf break, and want to avoid the likes of Kuta/Legian/Seminyak. We need reliable wifi access, preferably within the accommodation. I'd love somewhere that is also close to somewhere that offers yoga, but that isn't really a priority. We're thinking somewhere Bali, but are open to other suggestions. Would really appreciate suggestions for the trifector of surf, wifi, and CHEAP.

Thanks for your help!
