Indonesia Weather Feb/March - Worth Going?

Hi Guys,

Need a bit of advice about the weather situ in Bali/Lombok/Gili Islands at end of Feb/beginning of March. I've been doing a bit of research and understand that this is rainy season over there. I'm hoping somebody can tell me if it really is a complete washout over there, of weather it's just a few hours of passing rain every day, still with some sunshine to enjoy the beaches?

I've only got a couple of weeks left, so obviously want to make the most of it, is Indonesia still worth checking out, or am I better off looking at somewhere like the Philippines, or potentially another area of Indo?

Any help you can give is much appreciated - I'm struggling with a shitty wifi connection here so researching myself is proving to be a ...

Hi Everyone -

My sister and I have 2 weeks to spend in Indonesia and we have decided to split up the two weeks between Bali and South Sulawesi (Tana Toraja and maybe a couple of days in Bira for diving). First, does anyone have any general suggestions about this itinerary ?

And here are some more specific questions I've been trying to answer...

1. What would be your ideal itiniary for 1 week in Bali if you wanted a mix of beach, culture, biking, treking, non-beach scenary? As soon as we land in Denpasar , we want to drive to our first location.

2. Does anyone have any advice about Bira?

4. Does anyone know of a good driver in Bali or in Sulawesi (based in Makassar or Tana Toraja) that could drive us and also kind of act as a ...

My sister and I have 2 weeks to travel through Indonesia in May and need help with picking out the best itinerary for that amount of time (its way too short - but my work won't let me stay away).

From my research, Sulawesi, the more remote parts of Bali, Lombock, and Sumatra sound like the most interesting places to go - but I know we can't cover that much ground in 2 weeks. So does anyone have any advice on how to get the most out of our time there with some sample itineraries? We want a mix of cultural experiences, nature sights/treks, and beaches (and diving if possible). And we would also love advice on things to do/see in each place.

To give you a sense of what sort of travelers we are...we both love to go off the beaten path and ...

Hey

We are a danish couple going to Bali on the 19th February, but we have a few questions.

First of all, we will be leaving Bali in the afternoon on the 13th march and we are a little worried about getting to the airport etc. due to Nyepi being on the 12th march this year. Anyone have any experiences and tips on being in Bali for Nyepi?

Secondly we are not sure about visas. We have read in a few guidebooks that you can just get it upon arrival in Bali in the airport and pay 25 US$ ? Another option is to get it before we leave from the Indonesian embassy in Denmark, but that involves a lot of paperwork and we have to pay double of what it will cost in the airport..
Anything you can tell us about visas and Bali will be helpful!

Maluku in far eastern Indonesia sees but a trickle of both foreign and domestic travellers. We've never been there ourselves, but Laszlo Wagner has, and partly as a result of his love of the region he built the website East-indonesia.info.

So what we've done, in cooperation with Laszlo, is added links across the Indonesian portion to Travelfish.org that will lead you straight to the relevant sections on Maluku on East-indonesia.info. All such links are followed by [EI] so you know you're on the way to Laszlo's site.

East-indonesia.info is built in a different more generalist format than Travelfish.org -- think "there are boats between A and B" rather than "there are 6 departures from A to B daily which cost 124,000 ...

We have decided to spend the last two days of our 16 day trip in Sanur before departing as its close to the airport and we have seen a wonderful villa to stay at. Otherwise was thinking of staying in Seminyak for the final x2 days?

If we stay in Sanur has anyone got any reccomendations regarding car hire? As the villa is north of the town I was thinking of using the car to get in and out of Sanur but to also explore some beaches to the north. Is there any seculded beaches worth visiting?

Basic itinerary currently looks like this.

Hi all,

What a fantastic website and helpful forum. I used the Thailand forum last year and got lots of friendly advice from its members. This year I am landing at Denpasar on 27th Feb and will be in the region until 15th March.

I was hoping for some advice around a suggested itinerary. I will be travelling with my girlfriend and we want an even mix of relaxation as well as keeping ourselves busy and entertained. We both hated Phuket so I imagine we would hate Kuta. As we only have two weeks I was thinking of spending time in just 3/4 places. From what I've read, I imagine I couple of days in Ubud would be nice and a few days on the Gilli's (which one??) but apart from that I am open to suggestions. So another coastal area would be ...

Hi,

We're an American couple traveling to Bali for Chinese New Year (from Hong Kong), looking to relax during the day at the beach yet also go out some nights. Have been looking at villas with pools on Airbnb, so this is a slightly upmarket trip for us (we usually backpack), but we've decided to pamper ourselves a bit for once. I am wondering what other options there are besides Seminyak/Legian that have a decent beach for both relaxing and also body surfing [loved Varkala and Gokarna (Kudlee) in India for this combination]. Would like to be reasonably near some other "things to do" but are quite flexible on that and are also willing to travel around Bali for a daytrip or two.

I am also a reggae DJ so I am curious about ...

This is a (very much work in progress!) collection of links to useful information about Indonesia (both on and off Travelfish). We'll update it as more interesting or useful stuff appears. If you know of another interesting resource worth adding, please mention it in the comments. Thanks!

Introduction
Home to more than 220 million people and comprised of more than 17,000 islands, Indonesia boggles the mind when it comes to travel potential. The vast majority of travellers get no further than Bali and Lombok, though a steady, smaller stream traverses Sumatra and Java or explores Sulawesi. A lesser trickle still heads out to the eastern reaches of the archipelago.

With so huge a country to explore your largest challenges are the short ...

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hey there,

My wife and I plan to be in Bali for the Spirit Festival held in Ubud March 20-24. However, the "backpacker" accommodation package is $1400 (yikes), which includes this:
FULL FESTIVAL PASS
6 Nights Accommodation
Simple Daily Breakfast
Ensuite Bathroom with Hot & Cold Water
Airport Pick-up
Shuttle Bus
My wife is a yoga instructor and is super excited to go to this, but I need to find a way to lower the costs a bit. I reckon we could buy weekend passes and find a good budget accommodation in-and-around Ubud. Does anyone have recommendations?

We're also emailing the event organizers to see if we can volunteer in exchange for entry.

Hello, my friend and I are planning to take a tour to Pindul Cave in Bejiharjo Village on January 15, 2013. We plan to use valadoo.com's pick up service from Wonosari Terminal to Bejiharjo Village as the village is pretty remote (my friend mentioned to me that no public transportation is available to the village). Our problem is that the tour requires us to have 4 person(s) in the group in order to use the pick up service, so we're missing two.

My friend and I are on limited budget and we both don't have a driver's license, so renting a car is out of the question. I'm thinking of looking for fellow travelers regardless their nationality as a desperate measure, but other suggestions on getting from Wonosari Terminal to Bejiharjo Village ...
