Some Info On Redang Island

Redang has some of the whitest beaches and best snorkelling on east coast peninsula Malaysia. Diving is pretty good too. But the most popular beach is crowded.

BEST BEACH.
Hard to say. The main twin beach area of of Pasir Panjang at the north end of the east coast would have been one of the best in Malaysia before development. Now it is packed with midrange resorts and has a holiday camp atmosphere with hundreds of middle class Singaporean /KL families and couples out to have a good time. It's still a beautiful beach but if you don't like lots of people in package holiday mode, go elsewhere.

Berjaya Resort's beach in the north of the island is pretty nice and that joint is exclusive to it but is not a place for budget travellers. ...

I need some help here. I'm hoping to travel in Malaysia from end of Jan to early Feb and I'm not sure where to go. It seems the weather can be quite different depending on what coast or Borneo you are on. The east coast sounds fantastic but I guess it's in the rainy season? I'd like some good beaches and diving, also like trekking, culture. Any suggestions and help figuring out the weather would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Perhentian Kecil Revisited

I got back to Kecil after a 12 year gap early in July. Way more development. Long Beach is no longer drop dead gorgeous - just an okay beach.

BEST BEACHES -
Long Beach has been spoiled by concrete buildings in back, rows of beach umrellas/mats and haphazzard parking of too many boats. The sand is not the eye-hurting white of the good old days. I'm putting it at #3 on Kecil. However if you want lots of accommodation nearby, plenty of restaurants and a few lively bars, this is the place. Note the northern half is quiter and cleaner than the south.
Petani/Impiani Beach is my #1. It's on Kecil's south coast, is about 250m long, lovely water and no low-tide problems, sand maybe not as white as some but real clean and going a long way out ...

I got back to Besar for the first time since '99. More resorts, estaurants etc but still a nice location.

BEST BEACH - the one at Perhentian Island Resort. This is open to the public and can be walked to from all resorts except Bubble's Dive Resort.
Bubbles Dive Resort beach is maybe next - Bubbles is exclusive to this beach, there is okay snorkelling off the sand. Only problem is access - boat only.
Abdul's and neighbours' beach is arguably as good - even better snorkelling north of the mid-beach pier. About 5 accomm places/restaurants to pick from.
I stayed at Flora Bay - this beach suffers the low tide blues. Lots of accomm and restaurants - good snorkelling off Shark Point at the east end but this requires a 300m swim from the ...

Port To Port: Tioman To Redang - Where To Stop?

Hello there!

Just a week away from my trip and there a few bits that need ironing out! We are planning on traveling from Tioman on the 18th August and need to be at the port for our transfer to Redang on the 20th August.

I have found an overnight bus from Mersing to Kuala Terengganu on transnational buses. However, what is there to do in Kuala Terengganu for a day and night? I did look to stop over at Cherating, however with a 4 hour bus and then busing the next day I did not feel like this was a viable option.

Has anyone got any alternative suggestions of where to stay/stop given that it is a rather awkward amount of time!

Thank you

Salaries and job openings aside, what do a I need to know in terms of differences between the two? I am a 26 year old American female and want international experience for my career in Peace Operations and International Development. I'm a social person and up for an adventure but also want to have the ability to communicate with people back home on a somewhat regular basis.

I'm also considering Laos and Thailand if either of those trump your opinions on Malaysia or Indonesia all together. Thanks in advance![/color]

Hi Everyone.

I'm a 23 year old male from Belfast. I'm booking a last minute trip to Malaysian Borneo for one month tomorrow. I hope to arrive on Sunday 31st July / Monday 1st August.

I spent some time travelling mainland Malaysia last year and so am really excited about fulfilling my most regretful not see. However, as it's so last minute I haven't had time to make much plans. All I know is that I'm flying to Kota Kinabalu where I intend to use as a base to explore Sabah. Following this, I think I want to move on to Kuching and use this as a base to explore Sarawak. Does this sound like an ok idea or is there a better way to do it? Also, is travel from Sabah to Sarawak easy to do?

I haven't booked any hostels yet. Would this be a ...

I am trying to decide weather to spend 2 nights / 3 days in Danum Valley or the Tabin Wildlife Reserve. I'm traveling alone and this will be a luxury after 3mths backpacking!

Both look fantastic. Tabin will cost RM1180 while the BRL in Danum is even more expensive RM2580

I really can't decide which one would be the better experience and if going to Danum Valley would be worth the extra cost.

Has anyone been to either/both? Advice would be helpful!!

Hello everyone!

I'm going to be stopping off in KL, as I fly from Siem Reap to Bali. I'm a bit pressed for time, but I'm thinking if I'm going to stop there anyhow, I might as well spend the night. Do you think it's worth changing money, getting out of the airport, finding accommodation, and then lugging myself back to the airport in the morning? Can I see and eat enough in KL in less than 24 hours to justify it?

Thanks!

1/ Express boat at Kuala Baram Jetty, Miri
2/ 4 Wheels drive (experience simple rally driveway)
3/ Plane from Miri airport
Marudi is a historical and peaceful town. The chinese temple has an age of 110 years old. Besides, the hidden Gudan Waterfall and longhouses are pearls that not being visited by many tourists. From Marudi, you can take boat to Mulu which is a totally different experience within plane. Also, can catch flight from here to Bario but book the flight early.

I will be in Malaysia soon enough and was wondering if you can exchange British pounds there easily enough? I would prefer to take pounds rather than change into Dollars first, then Ringgit. I seem to recall seeing exchange rates for pounds at all the places in KL but not sure on the rates.

Also, I want to buy some TEVA sandals but I'm having trouble getting the ones I want in my size in the UK. I have small feet (UK7) and it seems all the shops sell out of these really quickly or just don't bother getting stock in. I could buy them online but you never know, I might even be a 6 (I really hope I am not). I guess they would be about the same price in Malaysia (?) which Is fine, it is more about size than price...

Could I pick a pair ...
