Hi guys,

I'm currently in Chiang Mai and myself and a friend decided as a spur of the moment thing to go to Vietnam. We were looking at applying for a visa online but we're not sure which companies are real and if any are fakes as we don't want to pay the money and arrive to find we have no visa, or get completely over charged.

We are travelling to Bangkok tonight on the sleeper train and staying in Bangkok 1 night before getting a bus to Siem Reap for 2-3 nights, Phnom Penh for 1 night then bus to HCMC. We were going to go to the Vietnamese Embassy in Bangkok but it is closed on Sundays.

I have tried searching the forum for up to date information about reliable websites but I'm not having much luck finding any. I've also ...

Hi

We will be landing in Da Nang around 11 30am and would like to take the bus straight to Hoi An as it's a much cheaper option than a taxi.

Wikitravel says that there are frequent buses for 15 000 or so from the inter-city bus station but I was wondering how to get to the station from the airport?

Or.....

I heard there may be a cheap shuttle bus from the airport?

Visa, Train And Initerary

Me and my girlfriend are travelling to Cambodia and through Vietnam in december and january. I have a few questions regarding the trip and our initerary?

Getting a visa for Vietnam in Norway is expensive, and we're staying a few nights i Sihanoukville before entering Vietnam, and I've read that getting visas here is cheap and easy through the vietnamese cosulate. Will this be a problem between 23. and 25. december? (If it is, what about 25-27?)

We're planning on entering Vietnamthrough the border crossing between Kep and Ha Tien in the south, and our plane leaves from Hanoi about 3 weeks later, and the plan is to travel this distance mainly by train. Is it easy and straight forward to catch sleeper night trains the same ...

A man injects a chemical solution into a jackfruit to make it ripen quicker

Fruit farmers in southern Vietnam are injecting their produce with chemicals to make them ripen quicker and go rotten slower.

Orchard owners and fruit dealers -- particularly those dealing in jackfruit and durian -- have also been found soaking their goods in such chemicals, which experts say could be poisonous, according to a Tuoi Tre investigation wrapped up last month.

Lan, a durian dealer from Dong Nai Province said she buys tons of durians every day and “there’s no time to wait for them to get ripe.”

She argued that using the chemicals saves her time and energy.

Lan buys durians harvested when they are only 70 to 80 days old. The fruit normally ...

[color=rgb(51, 51, 51)]HI

I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AROUND FOR SIMILAR THREADS AND THEY ARE MOSTLY OUTDATED SO I DECIDED TO START THIS.

I AM PLANNING A BIKING TRIP IN VIETNAM FROM 12 DEC 2011 TO 10 JAN 2012 . THE PLAN IS TO BUY/RENT A BIKE IN HANOI, LIKELY CUONGS(HIS NAME JUST KEEPS APPEARING!) IT WOULD BE A HONDA WIN OR WAVE.

NOW THE ORIGNAL PLAN IS TO DO THE NW LOOP( Hanoi -> Mai Chau -> Dien Bien Phu -> Sapa -> Hanoi ) THEN FROM HANOI HEAD DOWN TO HCMC, FLYING BACK FROM HCMC.

THE PROBLEM IS I DONT KNOW ROUGHLY HOW LONG I WILL TAKE TO DO THE NW LOOP, AND IF I WERE TO DO NW AND MY ANY COW LUCK I DONT HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO MAKE IT DOWN HCMC FOR MY FLIGHT ON 10JAN THEN THINGS WILL BE REALLY TRICKY.

IF I DONT DO THE NW ...

When To Book Halong Bay/Sapa Tours?

I want to go to Halong Bay and Sapa between 03/01/2012 and 11/01/2012. Should I book these when I get to the hotel in Hanoi or should I book them early online (if possible). I am one to like to have everything organised before I get there. What are your experiences?

Also, should I book my train tickets from Hue - Danang - Nha Trang now, being that I will be travelling to those places close to the lunar new year?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Do I really need to carry a mosquito net? We'll be in Vietnam and Laos for 40 days total, including some tours. It seems that most nets come either with a hook that attaches in the center or with strings at each corner. I am wondering about how useful they will be. If a room has a place to tie the hook - wouldn't it have a mosquito net? And if it doesn't - where would the net be placed? Thanks!

Good morning all,

Next week I am going to be in Phu Quoc and was then going to make my way through Rach Gia to Can Tho, My Tho and then onto HCMC. I have given myself 5 or 6 days to do it.

I know there have been heaps of topics on it but Im after updated information.

What are the major flaws in doing this trip myself and catching local buses/boats? Are the buses still the best way to get from place to place? Anything to avoid?

Any tips or good spots to look out for, even if they are out of the way?

Thanks,
