CamelBak BPA-free bottle with bite valve

Stuff you may find useful

The climate in Southeast Asia is resoundingly hot and humid for most of the year and one of the most common ailments that strikes travellers to the region is dehydration. You need to drink a lot of water, every day, to keep hydrated -- probably a lot more water than you would even consider drinking at home. The good news is that bottled water is inexpensive and can be purchased across the region. The bad news is that by the end of a month-long trip you'll not only have spent a lot of money on bottled water, you'll also have left behind you a great big pile of empty plastic water bottles.

CammelBak BPA-Free Better Bottle with Bite ValveThe easiest and cheapest solution to this is to buy a single litre bottle of water upon arrival and refill that as you go (obviously you'll need to be sterilising the water). This works fine, but for just a few dollars you can buy a sturdy drink bottle that is designed to be reused and comes with little treats that will make travellers happy. The leader of the pack in water bottles for travellers is CamelBak and the CammelBak BPA-Free Better Bottle with Bite Valve gets over 300 resoundingly positive reviews on Amazon.com.

A number of points make this a winning choice. The bottle is BPA- (Bisphenol-A) and phthalates-free and comes in a range of sizes (500ml, 750ml and one litre) and a bunch of different colours. It also has an integrated hoop/handle that makes is easy to clip to the outside of a backpack. Lastly, the bottle has a bite valve, so there's no need to unscrew it to drink -- you just bite and sip. Oh, and it is spillproof.

With prices starting at under US$10, this is pretty good value, especially considering you'll be able to use it over and over and over again.
