The little village of Ban Phou Ngeng, six kilometres from the mouth of Konglor Cave along the Phou Ngeng river, sits adjacent to a striking range of limestone mountains (the eponymous Phou Ngeng).

It's primarily visited as an overnight while touring Konglor Cave, but it's a very pretty little spot in its own right, and those with time on their hands may want to linger here a bit longer.

There are only two places to stay, both of which offer attractive views of the river and reasonable lodgings.

There are treks and tours of other underground rivers beside Konglor that are available here -- little undertaken to date, but ask in at the Auberge Sala Hin Boun if you're looking for more to do.

Ban Phou Ngeng is a teeny tiny village with no services whatsoever, where precious little English is spoken, so if you have any needs or questions about pretty much anything, you'll probably have to head to the Auberge even if you're not staying there.
