Also known as Phra-Ae Beach, the aptly named Long Beach is, you guessed it, the longest beach on Ko Lanta. At approximately 5km in length, Long Beach boasts fine sand and lots of good swimming, with not too many pesky rocks and the water getting deeper at an appropriate rate. This is the second beach running down the west coast of Ko Lanta after Khlong Dao.
Like its northern neighbour, things are getting more developed -- it's very popular with families and the resorts and their facilities reflect this.
While a number of resorts have been built here in the last few years, the beach itself remains a sleepy backwater. Development is ongoing along the main road, with new shophouses and rental space being added at a cracking rate. The centre of the beach however is still largely undeveloped, so there's still plenty of opportunity to grab a strip of sand to yourself. Indeed, in the quieter seasons, you will likely be the only soul on the beach.
Food and entertainment-wise there's no shortage of bars and restaurants, especially at the southern end of the beach. We have heard some strange reports about the restaurateurs being extremely competitive with one another, so if the place you sit down at has a bit of a weird vibe, just leave and try somewhere else.
