Also known as Phra-Ae Beach, the aptly named Long Beach is, you guessed it, the longest beach on Ko Lanta. At approximately 5km in length, Long Beach boasts fine sand and lots of good swimming, with not too many pesky rocks and the water getting deeper at an appropriate rate. This is the second beach running down the west coast of Ko Lanta after Khlong Dao.

Like its northern neighbour, things are getting more developed -- it's very popular with families and the resorts and their facilities reflect this.

While a number of resorts have been built here in the last few years, the beach itself remains a sleepy backwater. Development is ongoing along the main road, with new shophouses and rental space being added at a cracking rate. The centre of the beach however is still largely undeveloped, so there's still plenty of opportunity to grab a strip of sand to yourself. Indeed, in the quieter seasons, you will likely be the only soul on the beach.

Food and entertainment-wise there's no shortage of bars and restaurants, especially at the southern end of the beach. We have heard some strange reports about the restaurateurs being extremely competitive with one another, so if the place you sit down at has a bit of a weird vibe, just leave and try somewhere else.

The main north–south road runs a couple of hundred metres back off the main beach and you'll find most of the tourist services you'll need (ATM, internet, small shops etc) along this road. Long Beach is about a 10-minute drive from Ban Saladan.

Review title

Snappiness encouraged ;-)

When did you visit here?

This gives your review a bit of context - especially if you were last in Long Beach in 1932.

Your review

(Remotely sensible, non-ranting comments are much appreciated. If you don't like somewhere, please explain why -- it's all far more helpful for others that way.) Serial ranters, loons and spammers will be banished!
And please, no self-promotional URLs -- that's what your signature field is for.

So how does it rate?
On a scale of one to ten (with 10 being outstanding and 1 being bloody awful) how would you rate Long Beach for the following criteria?

Note: Ratings are OUT OF TEN -- not five!

Sights & activities:
History & culture:
Scenery & environment:
Eat & drink:

Traveller scene:
Romance:
Value for money:
I'll be back (or not):

Please note comments are edited for clarity, typos and style before they appear. Ranting tirades, spam and anything else that really belongs somewhere else won't make the cut. If you want to rant, go to Thorntree.

Please login and refresh this screen before writing your review -- thanks!
