Moving south for another kilometre from Khlong Jak, a steep winding road leads to the jungle-surrounded Mai Pai Bay. This hidden away, beautiful cove is the southernmost beach on Ko Lanta before the beginning of the national park.
A white-sand beach, Ao Mai Pai has a small reef offshore which is quite a good snorkelling spot, but the reef does hamper swimming at low tide -- so again this is a beach where you need to be up on your tidal charts.
The selection of places to stay here is likely to be bolstered by eventually, but overall if you're going to travel to the southern tip of Ko Lanta, rest assured you should be in for a relatively quiet stay. On the beach, there is only one accommodation option. This is the beach that you pick for accommodation that is of a high standard and is well priced, but on a quiet and peaceful beach.
Getting too and from this beach poses a problem, but Baan Phu Lae do offer a pick up and drop off service from the pier.
Further south from Mai Pai Bay will take you to the entrance of Mu Ko Lanta National Park where an admission fee of 200B is payable. If you decide to enter, keep an eye out for monkeys foraging for food. We've heard that when given food these monkeys politely give a little thank you nod.
