Luang Nam Tha province
This northern Lao province is best known for the trekking and backpacker centre at Muang Sing, which, over the years has developed into something like a Lao version of the Thai town of Pai. It's a very popular place to visit and overall, deservedly so.
The provincial capital of Luang Nam Tha is rapidly becoming the best known face of Laos' nascent eco-tourism industry and so far has shown considerable potential. If some of the work in Luang Lam Tha could be replicated across the country, Laos would be setting itself some very firm foundations in the sustainable tourism department.
