Places to go in Vinh Long province
Vinh Long

The small and roughly oblong-shaped province of Vinh Long sits on a long drawn-out Delta island, with the Tien Giang (Mekong) River running along its northern border and the Hau Giang (Bassac) River running to its south. Tra Vinh sits to the east, serving as buffer to the South China Sea and Sa Dec borders to the west.

Best known for the floating market at Cai Be (which is actually in Tien Giang province, but covered here as it is most often visited from Vinh Long) and the Mekong Delta homestays that can organised from here, Vinh Long province sees a trickle of travellers passing through, but only a fraction choose to stay overnight at the same-named provincial capital.

Lush and heavily cultivated with both rice and fruit orchards, the province is criss-crossed with canals and tributaries all flowing into the teeming rivers that form its borders and while most who do choose to stay here venture no further than across the river, those with the time (or their own transport) getting out into the surrounding countryside (if even just for a hour by hired motorbike), is well worthwhile.
