Botanical Gardens
An ideal spot to while away an afternoon
What we say:
At the base of Penang Hill you'll find the Botanical Gardens, an ideal spot to while away an afternoon. The land was originally a stone quarry and was set up as a nursery for plants of economic value in 1884. While admission is free, the gardens are a little out of the way, so if you take a cab, arrange a time with the driver to pick you up again. Buses pass by on Jalan Burma near Jalan Bagan, from where it is a 15-minute walk to the gardens. The walk is quite interesting, passing through an affluent area of Penang and a couple of Hindu temples.
