Buddha Tooth Relic Temple
Make sure you explore
What we say:
This multi-tiered pagoda is on most visitors' Chinatown to-do list, but few venture beyond chanting monks in the ground level prayer rooms — a big mistake.
Every level has something worth seeing from the free museum of Southeast Asian Buddhist art on the third storey to the Tibetan prayer wheel and orchid garden on the roof.
The tooth relic itself is housed in a secure chamber and is the only room in the temple where photography is not permitted.
We've never made it early enough to catch the 04:30 morning rituals but the evening closing ceremony with traditional drummers and bells is worth setting your watch for.
