Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple

Lots of Vishnu images

Photo of , , Little India

What we say: 4 stars

This Hindu temple in the heart of Little India dates back to 1855 but had a much humbler appearance before the five-tier Gorupam roof was added in the 1960s.

If you look carefully at the carvings you'll see many representations of Vishnu, the preserver of the universe and god the temple is dedicated to, plus his female consort Lakshmi and eagle sidekick Garuda.

This temple is the starting point for the annual Thaipusam festival, a show of extreme religious devotion through self-mutilation and painful tasks.
