DFS Galleria
Duty free shopping outside the airport
What we say:
It's normally only possible to shop duty free (in other words, nothing is taxed, making it 10 to 40% less expensive than normal) within the international passenger terminal of airports or at border crossings.
DFS Galleria rejects that premise while offering a lot more stuff to buy than you'll find in Changi airport. The only catch is that you must be departing Singapore by plane -- simply bring along your passport and flight details, and the Galleria staff will arrange for your purchases to be waiting for you at the departure gate.
Although souvenirs like traditional tea sets and chilli crab mix can be scored here, the Galleria is mainly geared to luxury goods. Expect no shortage of Louis Vuitton luggage, Tag Heuer watches, MAC cosmetics and the like.
Premium liquors, champagne, hand-rolled cigars and cigarettes, which are otherwise heavily taxed in Singapore, are also big sellers here.
