Victoria Theatre & Concert Hall
Worth a gander from outside while closed
What we say:
The Victoria Theatre & Concert Hall is the grand dame of Singapore's performance spaces.
It was originally two separate buildings -- a town hall and a memorial hall for Queen Victoria -- but they were linked by the addition of the now-iconic clock tower in 1906.
The theatre's elegant 900-seat auditorium is ideal for opera, orchestra, ballet and theatre, but is closed for renovations until 2013.
The building is a national monument and it's worth walking past to admire the colonial architecture and see the statue of Sir Stamford Raffles outside.
