What we say:

Located just off the moat at the foot of Huay Kaew Road, the Kad Suan Kaew branch of Central shopping plaza occupies a massive red brick monstrosity that's one of Chiang Mai's biggest... things.

Although it has far more of a corporate presence than Chiang Mai's street markets and night bazaars, air-con Central isn't a bad place to poke around on a rainy or extremely hot afternoon, or to find that specific adapter or other elusive item. If seeking Western comfort/junk food, you'll find Sizzler, Pizza Company, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, KFC and a Tops Supermarket downstairs, which has a solid bakery along with plenty of Western products. Half-decent Thai, Chinese, Japanese and other food spots can also be found here, as well as plenty of banks, Western Union, mobile phone shops, DVD stores, pricey and cheap clothing shops, an okay English book store and even a couple tattoo parlors.

The cavernous complex also houses a well-priced cinema on the top floor where you can catch that flick you've been dying to see.
