Nguyen Trang Truc Pagoda
Those dastardly French
What we say:
Dedicated to Rach Gia's favourite martyr, this pagoda is set a short walk from town. The main attraction is the bust of Nguyen Trung Truc, which stands out the front. There's a small English-language explanation of his undertakings inside the pagoda. He led attacks against the French in the mid 19th century and despite repeated attempts to capture him, the French never quite managed it. Eventually they grabbed his mum and a few other citizens and threatened to knock them off if he didn't surrender. Surrender he did, and the French executed him.
