Kook Khee Kai - A relic from French times

Just outside Laem Singh town.

Description
This small red brick tower forms one of the more unsavoury footnotes to the French occupation of Eastern Thailand. Literally translated, the name means Chicken shit building and refers to how prisoners were encarcerated at the base of thw tower whilst chickens were kept above them, literally shitting all over the prisoners.

When we visited the tower, there were no chickens in evidence, although a swollen dead cat disuaded us from snooping inside the tower too much.
The tower is not far from Laem Singh, so if you are heading to Laem Singh it is easy to see the tower enroute.

Oasis Sea World - Bizarre

Description
Oasis Sea World, a theme park catering mainly to tour groups visiting from Rayong and Pattaya, is just outside Laem Singh and bizarre enough to be worth a stop. The park has a main dolphin enclosure, an artificial lake that you can rent paddle boats on, a butterfly garden, a selection of massive concrete fruit and a small zoo. The park is home to humpbacked and Irrawaddy dolphins and supposedly breeds them on the premises, although when we last visited none of the dolphins looked to be in spectacular health. Shows run throughout the day, beginning at 09:00 and finishing at 17:00.
