Getting there and away
Hsipaw's train station is a 10-minute walk from the post office, to the west of town. All the guesthouses are within walking distance of the station.
The 05:00 train from Lashio arrives at 09:25, leaving 15 minutes later, arriving in Kyaukme at 11:05, Pyin Oo Lwin at 16:05 and Mandalay at 22:40.
In the reverse the train leaves Mandalay at 04:00, arriving at Pyin Oo Lwin at 8:22, then Kyaukme 13:39, Hsipaw at 15:15 and terminating at Lashio at 19:35.

Lashio: Upper class $4, 1st class $3 and ordinary $2.
Kyaukme: Upper class $2, 1st class $2 and ordinary $1.
Pyin Oo Lwin: Upper class $6, 1st class $5 and ordinary $3.
Mandalay: Upper class $9, 1st class $8 and ordinary $4.
A minibus to Kyaukme costs 2,000 kyat and leaves around 09:00 in the morning. Ask your guesthouse to call them and they'll pick you up. The regular bus leaves at 07:00 and costs 1,000 kyat. Both services take around an hour.
Buses to Mandalay take around six hours and will deposit you at the Highway Bus Station. There are at least multiple departures daily from Hsipaw to Mandalay (we found at least 05:30, 07:00, 09:00, 10:00, 15:00 and 19:00 departures) costing between 4,500 and 8,000 kyat. For Mandalay you can also flag down any bus passing by, but you may end up sitting in the aisle.
From Mandalay there are at least two services daily, an ordinary bus at 07:00 (4,000 kyat) and an air-con bus at 15:00 (5,500 kyat)
The Lashio to Mandalay Road is dotted with private bus company kiosks which serve both both buses commencing in Hsipaw and through buses from Lashio. Sample destinations and times include:
Yangon: 14 hours, 14,500 kyat, departs at 17:30. Note this service comes from Lashio -- book a day in advance to be sure of getting a seat.
Taunggyi: 15,000 kyat, departs at 15:30
Kalaw: 15,000 kyat, departs at 16:30
Nyaung Shwe: 15,000 kyat, departs at 17:00
