Getting there and away

Bus

Buses pass through Muang Sui from Vientiane, Luang Prabang and Phonsavan. The bus times are not set, neither is there a bus station. To catch a bus (or a songtheaw to Phonsavan), head for the centre of town and wait. Buses from Phonsavan (twice a day) will arrive in the morning, buses from the west will arrive in the afternoon. Prices vary and you must pay the driver.

Other

Hitching really becomes a reality in Muang Sui, if you miss the bus option. If you are a little adventurous, you can flag down a passing truck or car. Many truck or lorries will pick you up and take you to the next big town (Phonsavan to the east or Phu Khun to the west) for a small sum. The guest house owners are past masters at flagging down trucks and helping out tourists -- they even have a handy supply of lao lao for the wait.
