Vang Vieng

Getting there and away

Bus

Until recently the bus station was just a collection of vehicles parked on the old airstrip east of town, but now Vang Vieng has a proper one. The bad news is that the new station is about 2 km north of town near the high school and, with backpacks, a bit too far to walk.

Songthaews and tuk tuks were firm at 10,000 kip per head for a ride between the bus station and town, but if you're with a big group it makes sense to negotiate for the whole vehicle. The "tourist bus station" near the old airstrip is still in use, but only for mini-vans. Everyone and their dog sell bus tickets but will charge a small commission. Get them at any guesthouse, tour agency, internet cafe, or at the station.
