Sentosa

Getting there and away

Train

At a cost of S$3 per person, The Sentosa Express monorail gets you from the third floor of Vivocity Mall to Sentosa Island in minutes. It's a smooth, safe ride, but the downside is it can be extremely crowded. The monorail runs from 07:00 to 00:00 every day and there are three monorail stations around Sentosa.

The Singapore Cable Car runs between Sentosa and Mount Faber with a mid-way boarding point at Harbourfront MRT. The views of the busy harbour are spectacular but so is the fare – S$24/$26 (one-way/roundtrip) for adults and S$14/S$15 for children. If your goal is to spend as much money as possible you can upgrade to a crystal-studded seven-star cable car with leather seats.

Lastly, let me share a little secret with you, my dear Travelfish.org readers. The S$3 monorail fare is only collected at the departure point at Vivocity Mall and, since most people pay by EZ-link card, there are no tickets to check. This means you can walk across the Sentosa Boardwalk (S$1) then take the monorail back for free.

    Bus

Bus service RWS 8 runs in a loop from Vivocity Mall to Resorts World Sentosa. The fare is S$2 a person and buses run from 06:00 to 23:30 daily. You're more likely to get a seat on the bus than the monorail, but traffic can make the ride quite slow and it's only convenient for the Resorts World attractions: the casino, Universal Studios and expensive restaurants.

If you choose to drive, an entrance fee of S$2-7 (highest on weekends, lowest weekday nights) is levied per car whether you're in a taxi or have your own wheels. Parking isn't free either.

      Other

With the opening of the Sentosa Boardwalk earlier in 2011 it's now possible to walk to Sentosa for S$1 per person. The boardwalk runs from Vivocity Mall to the Resorts World area and takes about 10 minutes to cross. One side is shaded with travellators (those moving walkways usually reserved for airports) and the other side is open to the tropical sun with gardens, sculptures and al fresco restaurants. The boardwalk is open 24 hours if you're paying by EZ-Link card, otherwise the ticketing booths are open 09:00–18:00 daily.
